slight electrical disturbance of yesterday having left no trace b0- hind and the business of the morning proceeded rapidly and smoothly Two young men Rev A Simonds and Rev A Parham having completed the invariable two years' probation in the conference and ministry were received into full membership and elected to deacon's orders Two promising young men George Paul and Robert Walker were received on trial The most interesting feature of the day's proceedings was the address of the presiding bishop to the candidates for admission into full membership in the conference This has come to be regarded as an event in every conference session it is almost always an elaborate and practical lecture to the class about to be accepted into the membership and responsibilities of the conference The: occasion also affords the bishop a fine op-: portunity of addressing himself bsdirectly: to the entire conference imparting out of his abundant experience learning and observation most valuable lessons of instruction The lecture yesterday morning was altogether original and unique It was a kind of life-like picture of the model treacher as seen in the character life It ud teachings of Saint Paul The force of underlying character was shown doctrine was expounded consecration was illustrated and impressed the art of winning meu exhibited and commended and the heroic spirit held up to admiration The address made a profound impression upon the conference Yesterday afternoon a reception was given the members of the conference and the visitors by Mrs la Chapman su-: perintendent of Knoxville and all points be-: tween and from the surrounding country Members of the conference occupied all of the pulpits of all the churches of the several denominations in the town but the principal Interest naturally centered in the conference love least and in the conference sermon Ly Bishop Andrews i To fully appreciate the sermon one needs to know the preacher Imagine a man of about hair closely trimmed a face strong and firm but of remarkable benignancy bright grayish blue eyes se- rene penetrating and twinkling with a voice and manner inviting and at once winning your confidence and you have the man Bishop Andrew's Sermon But only a full and complete report could do justice to the magnificent sermon The text was: "Upon this rock I will build my church" Mutt le) 18 The theme was: The Christian Builder and the Building The bishop said in part: "We are to consider the Christian church the most conspicuous structure of all the ages Its beginnings were small and
