the school yeeterday the gentlemen interested going out in carriages There were present besides Col Cole Judge Kirkpatrick and Mr Geddes of East Tennessee Judge Latham of Weet Tennessee Mr Wm Sanford being absent Beneon Louie Baxter and James Read of Nashville The Governor was expected but was reported on a fiehing expedition Secndary of State Allison vtas also not present Comptroller Pickard was present These gentlemen are ex-efticio members of the Board The board organized by electing Judge I Latham of Memphis President Louis Baxter First Vice President and Judge Kirkpatrick Second Vice PeeMdent Benson Treasurer and John Allison Secretary The Executive Committee is composed of LF Benson Louis Baxter and John Alit Col Cole made a statement to the' board setting forth what had been done up to this time He said there were ninety-six acres of land unencumbered and that the institution was out of debt He was ready at any time to make a deed turning the property over to the State and to pay into the hands of the Treasurer the it 500d 111) had subscribed The Executive Committee was authorized to make an inventory of the property and settle with the old board and to see that the deed woe properly executed They were further destructed to secure plans and specifications for the extension of the building and take necessary steps to enlarge the usefulness of the institution and to prepare for an increased number of inmates The prreseot number of inmates is fourteen whites and eight colored The Secretary was instructed to notify the several Circuit and Criminal Court Judges
