Another very large crowd was at the Sulphur Spring l'ark yesterday afternoon to witness the second Detroit-Nashville game The contest was rather one-sided throughout and there was no excitement Yet all were pleased with the work of the Naahvines Most attention was directed to Maul who for the second time this season was In the box in this city It is ated praise to my that he did extremely well A little wild at times he yet showed that he possessed much science and was well posted in the points of his important positon His speed wm groat so groat in fact that at Mum the plucky little Nicholm was unable to hold his terrible delivery The appended score gives the visitors ten base hits but the summary states that four of these were from bases on balls so that the great chiggers Wade only six clear old-fashioned hits The only difference between the effectivenese of his work and that of Corcoran on the preceding day was that he was wilder having four wild pitches all of which were very costly is a fine pitcher and will rank no longer as an experiment 11 The team did goo' field work except Corcoran whose errors alone allowed the visitors to make five runs in one tuning after the side should have been retired Mannion was put on second and made a number of difficult pick-ups of hot grounders At the bat the team did well considering the fact that they confronted one of the most promising pitchers in the country and considering further the fact that he was backed up by a team that never made a single error The visitors as the score shows did fine work except with the bat Knowlton and Ganzel are unquestionably a great battery but had Maul mid Nicholas been Detroit's battery and Knowlton and tianzel in for the locals the former would have won by as good a score as they did The Nashvilles could not succeed in getting a man acmss the plate Stealing second base was the obstacle Ganzell was there and so was Dunlap and they were a fatal obstacle to every attempt In the ninth inning Clinton led off with a safe hit to left field and Hayes took his base on balls the two advancing a bag each on Reeder's sacrifice Maul who had already done some heavy stuFging came next to bat and the shrewd Knowlton rather than allow him an opportunity to make either a safe or a sacrifice hit sent him after Hayes to his base on bails There were then three men on bases'Mantlion hit a hot one to the pitcher who threw home cutting off Clinton who was forced off third Ihe bases were still full when Corcoran after four balls had been pitched made a fourth ineffectual attempt to bit and was declared out thus retiring the side The followilig is the score by innings: Easter Cards! brilliant base running were the features rather than the fielding though the latter at time" wu sharp and superb Had the contest taken place in either St Louis or Chicago the enthusiasm would bare doubtless been unbounded but here the people were more critical than otherwise The 'Tour Strikes" rule appeared to lengthen and make the game drag somewhat it be ing almost dark when completed There
