Winter Clothin Yesterday was another big day for Nashville A great many sales were made and at night the market closed strong buyers and sellers alike entertaining a feeling of perfect confidence In many respecte the present rise is quite phenomenal Nearly every other city which has experienced such a sudden boots In prices has had in the early stagea of its history some check or set back Nashville has experienced no such damper and has this morning a brighter prospect than ever before Yesterday's prices exceeded all hopes of the sellers An illustration of this way be seen in the Reid place the property of the heirs of the late Judge John Reid It was yesterday offered for sale at auctionm under a decree of the Chancery Court and brought $24600 a very handsome price for a tract of nine and one-halt acres It is located several hundred yards beyond the terminus of the street car track on the Franklin turnpike When the sale opened the number of buyers Negotiations tor Control of more extensive scale having not only a largo area (4000 acres) in and adjacent to the tewn but 30000 acres of mineral lauds that extend even into Tennessee The depressed condition of real estate in that section for an many years enabled the projectors of Mit to buy the property at very low prices As if in a rimii of bright light the wisdom of the investment was apparent and positive faith in it great-railroad deal were refused except Col Harry Clark the manager et the Baltimore Ohio Telegraph here About noon Mr Garrett and the Colonel took a cab and drove away together On the former's return he was asked for news "News?" be said "I have- none You must know that matters are in such a condition as to make my speaking out of the question at least for the present" Col Clark was seen and better results obtained He said: "Only one statement made in the press so far has the stamp of actual truth and that was published yesterday to the effect that no deal looking to the selling of the Baltimore Ohio from under the control of Robert Garrett was even thought Of Mr Garrett has been trying ever since Fe took the reins of manage-tent in his hands to bring about Ws father's dream to obtain entrance to New York City and establish through connection to New Orleans To this end a proposition was made to convey the controlling interest of the Baltimore edo to a syndicate of which the Reading Jersey Central Richmond Terminal and Baltimore Ohio were all to be parties Just here is where everyone seems to have been switched off The proposition to dispose of a controlling interest in the Baltimore Ohio was made with the distinct understanding that Mr Garrett was to be placed at the head of the syndicate The premature publication given the matter has materially retarded the scheme but I do not think placed it beyond consummation" like those yesterday prevailwi anti the tumble and roll of the waters continued lime white caps Acre oil the inerease and the stroog northwestem ly Before noon both large and small vessels began to approach It was a good testing day and many skippers followed the movements of the two schooners so soon to be lost to view upon the broad ocean that were darting about in the upper bay Spectators had arrayed themselves in commanding positions along both shores of time nar- rows and as the time drew near for the start they could be counted by the hundreds It was a cold day and the unprotected headlands were tint the most comfortable but this seemed not to interfere with theas true lovers of yachting By 12:30 o'clock pleasure craft of all descriptions lay off Owl's Head waiting for the start They presented a beautiful marine picture Above all towered the spars of the two beautiful schooners with their great spread of canvas The Luckenback with the regatta committee of the New York Yacht Club hove in sight and preparations were made for the departure Both of the-contestants lay near The preparatory signal was given ten minutes before the strut The wind had not subsided nor the sea become less restless Every one was on the alert and when the final gun was given all were watching earnestly Wheu the last signal was given from the LUckenback at 1:10 o'clock the wind was twenty-four miles and increasing and the tide a strong ebb The Coronet with topsail set got away first crossing the imaginary line between Owls Head Bay and Buoy 15 off the Staten Island shore at 1:14 setting one immense square sail followed by the Dauntless five minutes later with every stitch of canvas set The wind was almost free out of the narrows and the two Yanitee schooners started with good prospects and many a silent goopeed on their way to Cork Harbor where the race is to be finished off Roches Point In the preliminary play for position before the start the Dauntless healed over sympathetically under the influence of the stiff northwestern breeze while the Coronet stood up like a house Only lower sails were carried After they bad started HA audacious Yankees stitched down the oar-rows majestically The Dauntless curled seething waves under her shapely bows and the Cotonet pushing rapidly through the sparkling blue in a masterly and defiant way Club pennants and private signals were carried at the mast-heads and the American ensign displayed at the main peaks on both vessels The Coronet seemed to be the favorite among the spectators and by her masterly handling and evident ability justified the opinion On board each yacht was a representative of the Associated Press SANDY HOOK March 12--The Judges' boat left that it was with difficulty the finder decided it was something unusual As soon as some of the dirt was scraped off he sav what it was The news of the finding of the mysterious foot soon spread and belonged to a boy or a woman The flesh was still on it A careful inquiry was made a8 to whether anybody had disappedred from the neighborhood but no one knew if such had been the case That some dark crime was at the bottom of the mystery was the opinion of many Others said it must have come from the bledical Hospital but one of the Professors of the college said it would be almost impossible for any part of the subjects used to be lost They were too bard to get and then the loss would soon be found out It will be remembered that some months ago very near this spot one arm was found When the reporter asked a young negro boy if be knew of anybody that was missing he said the only one he knew of was Geo Watson a boy who has not been seen since last fall One of his companions was arrested for making away with him but nothing being proved he was released "Do you suppose that is the foot of Geo Watson?" asked the reporter of the boy "God knows" answered he looking intently at the foot
