McAlister County Health Offieer Reierring to tne condemnation of imperieet meats and other articles of food Dr McAlister-reported that the-following articles have been condemned during the past quarter: -1'38 hens and chickens seventeen dressed chickens fifty pounds of barn ninety pounds of shoulders sixty-nine head of cabbage twenty-nine bunches of raddishes two stands oi strawberries two cows four bead of sheep ten pounds of butter two quarters of beef two quarters of lamb three quarters of mutton This work is vigorously prosecuted and nothing is allowed upon the market which would affect the public health Ile has ordered the inspectors to condemn all surface closets in or- der to prevent as far as possible the contamination of the soil and of wells Ile referred to the subject of pauper buriale as one which should receive attention from the court and suggested that the subject be referred to the Health Board with power to act In the alternoon tuo-court took up the new county asylum matter and Smith exhibited and explained the proposed plans Justice Thompson said that he for one ineinber ot the Court did not feel capable of voting properly It was a large sum to expend and yet it was not right that the court should sit still and permit the county's poor to suffer It was to be a monument for a long time in the future and it would be well to have more information on the subject Ile therefore moved the appoint-' ment of a committee of five citizens outside of the court who shall investigate the matter thoroughly who shall go down to the site ann report the re-wit of their investigation at the October teem of the court Ile asked that Dr John IL Callender be made man of this committee Justice Overton seconded this motion and spoke favoisbly to the undertaking Ile also desired more infor 'nation He thought the county should do this thing and do it soon The county was now in good condis tion ior the undertaking in a financial way Ile for one would show his in terest by making a personal visit to the site Justine Campbell opposed the idea of going outside of the court for a corn9 mittee Judge Caldwell took the floor and spoke He wanted to extend some in- formation to the court and to say that he himself wanted to proceed In the most open manner The proposition acted Davidson County 'for years to come performing the function and duties hereafter as at present He then Proceeded to give a detailed history of tile course the committee- bad pursued up to the present point Ile heartily approved of the motion to postpone until October and machinery is working smoothly The supply of water is abundant with as good a pressure as has ever been had The old reservoir has been filled The new reservoir still stands empty Capt Reyer said yesterday that he did not know when they would fill it There is no pressingciemand for its being tilled at the present time and it is considered more important to take the present opportunity to shut down at the uld works and do what repairing is necessary There appears to be no further danger aa far as can be seen of tne water supply falling short Everybody that has been accustomed to get ting
