yesterday Edwin Gulliver of East Wareham was sentenced to three months imprisonment for failing to provide the necessary sustenance for three horses from March 1st to 'the 10th He appealed and was held in $200 bonds for the April term of the Plymouth county-sslttlng of superior court 1 Lemuel Burrill agent of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the complainant Mr Gulliver is a stable keeper and in 1900 he was found guilty of a similar offence Since then he has been warned several times by the society's agents and more than once Mr Bufrrill states food has been furnished for his horses at the expense of the society Last Sunday night Deputy Sheriff Hurley who is an agent of the society went to Mr stables in response to a complaint and purchased grain and bedding for the horses According to the testimony of Mr Burgess and Mr Houlette two young men of East Wareham they went into the barn last Thursday and scraped out what grain was found In the chest less than four quarts all told and divided it among the horses They stated that at that time there was no hay nor bedding in sight There was no evidence that the horses were fed from Thursday until Sunday night when Mr Hurley went to the barn None of those who testified had seen Mr Gulliver go there and the condition of the barn did not indicate that any one bad given the horses any attention Mr Gulliver pleaded not guilty and testified that he had visited his stable to care for his horses during the time specified in the complaint but it was at times w'hen no one was around One of the most
