The Fearnots Fire Company of Foster Township will launch its 1992 fund campaign next week. In connection with the upcoming drive, officials have explained some of the details and "myths" about the company. Myth No. 1 The local government totally funds the fire department: "While we receive limited tax support, amounting to 1 percent of our total operating income, the volunteer members of the company generate the remaining 99 percent.

The revenue comes from the generous support of the various fund raisers, with the annual fund drive the major source of revenue," according to Fire Chief John Ammon. Myth No. 2 We have a paid fire department: "The Fearnots Fire Co. is all volunteer. Our members volunteer out of a sense of pride and commitment and receive no paycheck.

In reality, most members lose money missing work or spending their own money to attend train- see orchestra dining room, the orchestra will play from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The group will then travel to Crossings Mall, Tannersville, for a snack and shopping. The bus will arrive back in Weatherly between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Correction Four candidates were elected to party committee posts in Weatherly in Tuesday's primary election. Myth No. 3 If they're volunteers, they can't be professionals: "Many people confuse the fact that being a professional has little to do with being paid. Our volunteers pride themselves on being highly trained and progressive. Over 550 training hours were spent attending training in the past 12 months." Myth No. 4 The fire department is always looking to buy a new engine.

What's wrong with what they have? "The department recently we received a new rescueengine. It is an ongoing procedure to update equipment. In the past ten years, there have been numerous technological advances in fire suppression techniques. If your property was on fire, would you want the company to come with a state of art piece of apparatus or equipment that is 30 years old?" Myth No. 5 The fire company is responsible only for fire "As the area develops, so do the demands on the fire company.

We no longer are viewed as a 'fire department' but as an emergency service department. While our primary mission is fire fighting, we respond to many other emergencies vehicle rescue operations, search and rescue, hazardous materials work; and also, in addition to emergency services, we conduct public fire education programs. Remember, the fire we prevent is one that we don't have to fight."
