But all at once both of them wheeled round and favored free trade; then they began to find' fault with the Republican party, and about two months ago the Democrat, owing to the peculiar situation of Missouri politics, cut loose from the Republican party entirely, and to-day is as much of a Democratic paper as the Republican is, and we should not be much surprised if it drove the latter from the field. The Chicago Tribune, while not quite so outspoken, is turning over as rapidly as possible. Scarcely a day "passes that it does not find fault with the Republican party and the actions of the lead-ihg Republican officials simply because they do not endorse rthe Tribune's free 'trade ideas. But we are glad to know that the 6taunch Republicans who have hitherto given these papers a hearty support are dropping off day by day, and "but few will renew iheir subscriptions.
