Teachers' Examinations, SPRING OF 1914 THE SPRING SERIES OF TEACHers' examinations will be held as follows: DeSotu, School House, April 2, 3. Hillsboro High School, April 6, 7. Examination will begin at 9:00 o'clock the first day and 8:30 the second. Credit will be given for attendance at professional schools in accordance with the legal terms of the law. All applicants who have never taught must have accredited standings from a six weeks' professional school, or have the required standings from the regular work of a State Normal or County Training school.

The law limiting the number of third grade certificates that a teacher may receive has been repealed. Applicants must bring all necessary writing material. THIRD GRADE SUBJECTS: Agriculture, Geography, Reading, History, Orthoepy, School Management, Spelling, Arithmetic, Civil Government, Grammar, Physiology, Manual Writing and Rural Economics. Additional Subjects for the SECOND GRADE: Physical Geography, Cataloging of Libraries, American Literature, and Composition. Examination for second grade subjects will be held at Viroqua April 1.

At Hotel Fortney on Mondays OBITUARY: In the village of Avalanche, March 29, Eugene, youngest son of Mr.and Mrs. Simeon Collins, aged 4 years, 5 months and 10 days, medical skill and devoted care on part of family and neighbors failing to arrest the disease of measles. He was a bright, cheerful child, pride of parents, brothers and sisters. Funeral and burial at Salem church March 31, conducted by Rev. Burroughs.

Passed away. on Belgium Ridge, Friday, March 27, Mr. Nels S. Talle, aged 81 years, after a winter's sickness. He leaves numerous relatives.

Funeral at the home of his son Sever, on Monday. At the residence of K. T. Lindvig in Coon, March 13, at the age of 83 years, Mr. Lars Nelson.

A sterling christian man, a pioneer of his community, Mordecai Adams, at his long-time home near Bloomingdale, laid down life's battles and donned the armor of saints on high. Death came at the age of 84. after protracted illness, on a recert day. Funeral was held at Salem church, where he worshipped for more than fifty years. Mr.

Adams came from Ohio and located on the Kickapoo in early fifties. Belgium Ridge has been bereft of a noble woman, a devoted wife, mother and neighbor in the shocking death of Mrs. Christian Henry, who died suddenly on Saturday evening. With her husband Mrs. Henry had been to the city to do trading and call While on in her the act chidren of who changing reside her here, dress well she as usual.

swooned and expired almost instantly. Heart weakness, from which she had occasionally suffered, is assigned as the cause of death. The news of her untimely passing quickly spread and causad profound sorrow. Funeral was held at the family home this morning, conducted by Rev. Hofstead, interment at Liberty Pole.

Mrs. Henry had lived in Vernon county most of her 60 years of life, married at an early age has five sons end four daughters, all living here, all married except two, also many grandchildren, who with the bereft husband, mourn for one hose whose about life was her. devoted to home, loved ones and a good woman has arisen to take her place in the better world. MARRIED At the Lutheran parsonage in La Crosse, by Pastor Magelsson, March 30, Mr. Albert Thompson of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Miss Hulda Carmichael, second daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Albert T. Carmichael of Viroqua. The newly wedded are off on a bridal trip. After returning here they go to their home in Minnesota, where the well- wishes of many friends will accompany them.

April 9. UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH Norwegian communion services in Viroqua at 10:30, In the evening at 7:45 there will be English union services of the Lutheran churches in Viroqua. Rev. Sovde of Coon Valley will be present. A cordial invitation is extended to all.

Young people's society will be entertained next Tuesday evening in the church parlors by Mesdames T. Fortney, Nels and Albert Solverson. MeGinnis, past supreme chief, journeyed to Viroqua and yesterday paid the widow of the late Dr. Hagen the $2,000 in full represented by his certificate of bership. Local members appreciate the promptness and fairness shown and the fact that the Ben Hur is the first society to pay the insurance held by Dr.

Hagen. Dr. Hagen had paid the society $4.75 and had held his certificate one month. Last evening the local society was organized with 50 members, having 58 applications. The society operates in 35 states.
