freedom The alarm was immediately given but the men had scattered in all direction and disappeared in the darkness The escape signal the unearthly schreoching' of the prison siren and the blowing of the prison whistle announced the escape to the inhabitants of the country for miles around and keepers of the institution were sent scurrying over the country along the roads to automobiles and tracks in search of the escaped patients Several of the fugitives were seen in town a few hours after the escape one of them asking 'the way of -era! citizen to the railrosdj Three of the escapes were
