Dahncke G5 of Ashley died suddenly of a heart attack Monday night at Saint Marys Hospital Centralia after entering the hospital Sunday with a heart condition Dahncke retired Feb 17 after over 37 years as a Standard Oil dealer He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Ashley IOOF Eastern Star and White Shrine of Centralia and the Consistory at East St Louis Born at Elkton he was the eon of Thomas and Florence Rountree Dahncke Survivors are his wife Stella of Ashley a daughter Mr Mildred Borden of Honolulu a son Charles who attends the University of Dll-hols his mother Mrs Florence Dahncke Oakdale state has begun initial steps to taka options on farmland in the area the Journal learned this week The test borings were made last fall at the dam site by engineers for the State Department of Conservation The sit is located at a point about four miles south by east of Nashville tn Bolo Township The dam would impound the watershed of the so-called Watering Branch of Locust creek and would create a lake of about S20 acre in a state park of approximately 1860 acres Original plans called for the state to acquire some 2390 acres for use as a recreation area but the plans were recently revised to buy up only th 1803 acres the Journal was Informed Under the revised plans all of the lake would be in Bolo Township with only the extreme northern portion of the park extending into Beaucoup Township Unofficial sources told the Journal an agent of the state has already acquired options on several plots of land Th lake would be operated by the conservation department strictly as a recreation area Under present plans there would be no provision to permit the City of Nazhvill from using the lake as new source of water except posJlbly la an emergency Funeral Friday For Harry Nashville widow of Frank Oohlmeyer who died of a heart attack on Thursday night In the Pinek-neyville Hospital: She had entered the hospital about two weeks ago after fracturing her hip In a fall The Rev Homer Young officiated and interment was In the Masonic Cemetery Mrs Oohlmeyer was the former Lela Mae Lyons and was bom at Naahville on September 20 1877 the daughter of Rosa Lyons and Beretta No 5 Comes Down The 126-foot smokestack of The countys two-year search for a dog catcher ended last week when the Board of Supervisors appointed Martin of Beaucoup as a deputy rabies inspector The office is a requirement of the state rabies control law Martins Job while listed as a rabies Inspector will be to pick up strays and unvaccinated dogs over the county If the dogs have been vaccinated authorized the purchase of two trabh containers for Main Street and voted to double the rebate to property owners for installation of street cubing The action represented initial move of city officials to cooperate in a five month program to improve the appearance of the community At its meeting last month Mayor Williamson was appointed coordinator of the program In raising the rebate from 40 to 80 cents per lineal foot for curbing the council hoped to interest property owners to build curbing where needed The city will furnish a free survey for all curbing and sidewalks where needed However the 40 cents per foot rebate for sidewalks was left standing by the counoll Williamson asked Nashville residents to write letters suggesting how the "Keep Nash ville Clean campaign can be carried out The letters should be addressed to the Mayor City Hall Nashville Highway 50 Group Continues Fight For Federal Route The Joint Interstate Highway Committee an organization of cities along Highway 50 reported this week It will carry its fight for the federal superhighway to Washington despite the threatened withdrawal of the groups eastern anchor point Vincennes Ind The committee Is seeking retention of the original plan to route the proposed east-west federal highway along the present HighwajP 66 instead of the revised plan to route It through Washington and Jefferson Counties
