juries last Dec. 30, in a Wilton traffic accident. The negligence action, brought I by Mary A. Curry, of Wilton, con- servatrix of Mrs. Woods' estate.

is directed against the estate of her husband, Joseph G. Woods, 44, an administrator at Norwalk Community college, who was killed in the crash of two autos. The complaint alleges that Mrs. Woods was a passenger in a car driven by her husband south in Chestnut Hill road near High Ridge road at 1:15 a.m. when the "ehicle crossed the center line of the highway and collided with a northbound auto.

Police Identify Driver Though the identity of the driver of the northbound car is not disclosed in the writ, state policemen said at the time of the accident that he was William Farrell, 20, of Mountain road, Wilton. who escaped uninjured. Nancy Gallant, 15, of 3 Blue Ridge road. Wilton, a passenger in Mr. Farrell's auto, received head and leg injuries, according to the police.

Mrs. Woods, her conservatrix alleges, was thrown from her husband's car and received severe physical and mental injuries. As a result of her injuries, it is claimed in the complaint, Mrs. Woods' inability to use her mental faculties has been permanently impaired. Also, the writ continues, her ability to speak clearly has been affected, but at the present time it is uncertain whether this alleged impairment will be permanent.

Mrs. Woods' ability to walk has been seriously impaired because of her injuries, her conservatrix charges further, and she has been obliged to hire persons to look after her five children and to care for her house. Defendant in Suit Elizabeth Woods McEvoy, New York city, administrator Mr. Woods' estate, is defendant in the suit. Police reported that immediately after the collision of the Woods and Farrell autos.

Tiernan expects stimony will wind up today in Superior Court investigation alleged payoffs for return of spended drivers' licenses. Four unidentified men anc ate Police Capt.

Thomas M. Brien testified Tuesday before udge Alva P. Loiselie, who is ting as a one-man grand jury. Loiselle said that he would re- ew some "material evidence" lefore writing his report. The udge added that he has not yet lecided whether he would have findings made public.

The law requires that findings ter such an investigation be rned over to New Haven Su- erior Court, which could issue irrest warrants on the basis of le report. Testimony behind closed doors egan in mid-March before Loi- elle. Tiernan had requested the in- estigation of alleged irregulari- es in the State Motor Vehicle epartment, saying an earlier robe by his office and by state lolice lacked subpoena power in le questioning of people who might be involved. The earlier investigation was touched off by a report to police that a New Haven man paid a least $500 to get his suspended license back. PAUL R.
