Undersecretary of the Air Force Joseph V. Charyk said today the air force was warned three days before the collapse of Texas Tower No.

4 last January 15 that the radar structure was in serious condition. The tower, off the New Jersey coast, carried its 23 occupants to death when it collapsed in a storm. Chank told the senate armed services preparedness subcommittee, which is inquiring into the tragedy, that the warning came from an architects-engineering firm at a meeting January 1. Charyk, under questioning by Sen. Stuart Symington, said it was correct that the air force had been advised the tower might collapse.

hank said No. 2 and No. 3 towers, still in operation off the Atlantic toast, probably will be abandoned when greatly improved radar is installed aboard early warning patrol aircraft. He estimated that will take ahuut two morp vears. Earlier the navy officer responsible for the design of Tower No.

4 said ils loss "was more an act of God than of man." Capt. John Albers of the navy civil engineering corps, told the'subcommittce that all the firms directly associated with the design and building of the towers vvere established concerns, well-qualified in their respective fields. Albers, now public works officer at the Puget Sound naval shipyard, Bremerton, said in a prepared statement that these were the first such Queen for A Dav 3:30 Who Do You Trust Gold Coast Matinee "Someone to Remember" fl) Queen for A Dav 3:30 Who Do You Trust 4 P.M.
