Our grade parties are new this year and have been a big success, she said. In previous years, parties were held for mothers and daughters and for fathers and sons, she explained. This year, the Sandburg PTA heard about the grade level parties being held at Whittier and decided to try a similar approach, she said. Lagoon has opened for its 85th season and will continue to be open weekends until it resumes daily operations on Memorial Day. The amusement park first opened as Lake Park on the shores of the Great Salt Lake in 1895 when a Salt Lake ice company conceived the idea of creating a lake from which it could harvest ice in the winter for summer use. The Lagoon springs, from which the lake was formed, turned out to be too warm to allow thick ice to freeze. Tomorrow (Friday) will be a red letter day for members of the Copper Golf club here as the Career Girls Golf Assn, hosts its annual get-acquainted social beginning at 6:30 p.m in the Copper Golf club. According to Bette Cutler, board member and historian of the organization, this is one event of the year when the womens group sponsors an activity that involves the entire club membership.
