The diplomats showed their Interest by calling at the state department and at the French embassy, to learn with more exactness the details of Spain's proposal, This developed several features of the proposition which had not been entirely clear before.

In the first place no foreign gov ernment outside of France bas been consulted by Spain in this overture for peace, and the present movement is not shared, directly or indirectly, by Germany, Austria, Italy, Russ a or Great Britain. OlinBsllis In junction City today. Electric fans are cooling. You get them and other seasonable articles in a I gains. Your eyes will soon tell you will never doubt again THE PROSPECTS BKIOHT. Lawrence Will Have an Electric Line Before Snow Falls.

Lawrence it going to have an elec trie line. There is no longer any dsubt on that proposition. The people of the city are anxious to haye the line and they are going to have it. The committee of seventeen met last night and formulated their plan. They will start to worsr at once.

The committee will publish a list of all subscriptions and the amount in the papers from day to tJav. This is a matter of information that the peo pie of the city have a right to have. The present is a crisis in the affairs of Lawrence and the public want to know who are the friends of progress. The advantages of an electric line are not discussed. They are so obvious that there Is nothing to discuss.

The only thing to do now is to go to work and raise the required amount. The proposition of the gentlemen is a reasonable one. They ask that the old street car line be got out of the way and the owners of the present street car line offer to sell it for the price practically of old iron. The other concessions are easily met and should be pushed through at once. The franchise should be asked for and granted at once.

The right to cross the bridge should be asked for at the meeting of the county commis sioners. There is no wear and tear on the bridge so there will be no contra versary about that. Lawrence is united now. us pull together. The citizens have never been so closely united as they are at the present time.

Lawrence must have that electric line. REMNANT SALE TOMORROW At Weaver's. We will place ou sale every short length of Silks, Black Dress Goods, Organdies, (Lawns, LDimlUes. Ging hams, Sateens, -Percales, Chal- Iies, Dotted Swisses and India Linens. Every piece will be marked at a remnant price and placed on our center tables and as a special inducement to close them out in one day we will cut the prices just on every remnant, thus making $1.00 do the work two.

Remember, this is for Friday only. Be prompt if you want to receive the best values. The meanest man is he who re cognizes that something is a good thing, but will not take hold and help out with his pocketbook be cause he thinfes that the matter is too good to let slip by and therefore the other fellows will see that the money is put up while he reaps his full share of the benefit. Tbe use of the term canteen is spreading in this city. The word joint has been a term of reproach, Lawrence fastidious and will not tolerate any these things.

In the future what-eyer is done along that line must be the canteen route. We have some pride tbat must ba respected. The remains of John Larkey, who was killed near Lecompton yesterday, were taken to his homeinTungancxle last night. Corornor Leonard went there tolay to finish the inquest. Geo.

Sleep will sometimes result from fatigue of the eyes; looking at the trees or other objects as we rush, along in the train will frequently "send us off."
