"citizens committee" into rmancial operations at the municipal landfill in Ward 10 Finance and Utilities Commissioner Arnold Jack Rosenthal who proposed the Investigation claimed the city has accrued a "deficit" up to almost $110000 at the landfill in the past 18 months "It (the landfill) is really costing us (the city) a lot of money" Rosenthal asserted "It's still the cheapest in the state" replied Mayor John Snyder who then asked Secretary-Treasurer Ray Allen to check other landfill operations to determine cost factors ROSENTHAL CLAIMED the "decificit" is really just the "expense the city must bear" for providing a public service namely garbage and trash disposal Snyder and Streets and Parks Commissioner Malcolm Hebert agreed to the probe to "clear the air" over Rosenthal's allegations The committee membership will be named at a later date In other action Monday the council conducted public hearings into proposals to "force pave" portions of 18 municipal streets By "forced paving" the city improves the street but the property owner must underwrite cost of the operation Law requires a "protest hearing" at which persons objecting to the paving can be heard Coin
