Baron Hoh-enstuffen Mr. Clement gives playgoers a new phase of the German character. The usual stage presentation is that of an ignorant, roaree and blundering Dutchman.

Mr. Clement, however, impersonate an intelligent reSned and cultivated gentleman, who, nevertheless is confuted, p'erplexed and constant ly entangled in the intricacies of the English toncue. Elmer Teagarden, once a Fort Scott boy, but who for the past seven years has been in Texas and South Carolina, was in the city a few days this Week visitine his relatives and friends. Mr Teagarden is traveling for the N. K. Fairbanks company. Last Friday evening Select Friends' ha'l was the scene of the most delightful social function that has taken place within a very long time.

The Amrita club gave a "German" which consisted of twelve. very pretty and novel figures. Messrs. Chas. Hulett and John Kearns led the German.

Last Wednesday evening Miss Vera Corey entertained a few friends at dancing and cards after which dainty refreshments were served. Those who were there were the Misses Ethlyn Rice, Jennie Moore, Fanny Mitchell, Lizzie Smith. Stella Coon, Myrtle Strode, Carrie Mitche'l, and Messrs Frank Bvron, Dave Combs, John Fleming, Vern Powell aud Will Anderson. Last evening Mr. and Mrs Chas.

Perry. The extremely warm weather the past week has brought out several fish ing parties. The first and second year classes of the Hih school in different parties went Friday to Bruce's Grove. Another party went beyond Baadera and found, after they bad satisfied their appetites at noon, that there was nothing left for supper. Thev were decid edly hungry when they got to town at 9:30, each one vowing to take double rations next time.

Ail parties declared thev caught enough fish to pay for their trip. Don't let anyone say that "the education of Fort Scott women stops with their marriage." There are in this citv three large and interesting literary clubs which are composed chiefly of married women. She has visiting her brother, Will, who is now employed on the Kant as City Journal. Mrs Thos. Wilcox has just re turned from the Oaawatomie asylum, where she visited ter aged husband. She reports that Mr.

George Turner, a young man in the employ of Mack HowarJ, the well known farmer who resides six miles north of the city, near Haramot-d, was the victim of a peculiar accident yesterday morning in which he was dangerously injured. The young man was driving a team of spirited horses, attached to a patent diso harrow on which he was rid in sr.

He was dragged some distance before the machine pastd over him and when he was picked up it was seen that one of hi limbs was terribly cut and laceraed. A ssage was sent for Dr. Carver who upon making an examination found that the young man's left foot was neat ly severed from his limb and that a terrible crash had been cut in his left leg.

Henry N. Alden, a member of the Lotus, Manhattan Athletic, New York Yacht and other clubs, was married a dozen years ago and lived with his wife nine years. Mrs. Alden obtained a divorce in North Dakota, where she was married to Dr. Weir.

The North Dakota divorce was not in compliance with Statutory conditions required in New York and Alden has obtained a divorce under the latter jurisdiction, thus affording a rather unique example of a man's being divorced from another man's wife. Innocent Han Pardoned. Topeka, April 18. 'Governor Morrill has issued an unconditional pardon to Charles Johnson, wbo was sent to the penitentiary from Bourbon county for two and one-half years in i896 for stealing a bicycle The man who really stole the bicycle has confessed, relieving Johnson of all blame.
