oil and products to the free world Jumped 42 per cent to 400000 barrels daily in 1960 and are now moving at more than 500000 barrels daily the Oil and Gas Journal said here Prices for crude going to the free world are about half that charged to Russian satellite countries "The Soviet's own figures for 1960 show why western oil leaders are sounding the alarm over the impact of this oil on the western industry" the magazine says To move this increasing volume to the free world the Russians cut prices an average of 175 per cent on about 220000 barrels per day of crude and to a lesser extent on about 180000 barrels daily of products in 1960 "The figures give strength to the contention that the Russians are pricing their oil in many cases on political grounds" the Journal says The average price of crude fob Soviet port or border sold to free world customers last year was 103 rubles per ton 1157 per barrel) compared with 199 rubles per ton ($303 per barrel) to Soviet satellites and Red China Compared with the 400000 barrel daily to the free world in 1960 Russians exported about 266000 barrels daily to the Red sphere for an over-all export total of 666000 I barrels daily Russian production passed the 300000 barrel er day mark in 1960 while free-world production averaged more than 17500- 000 barrels per day Italy is now the largest importer 1 of Russian oil in the entire world slaying of his wife Mrs Kathleen Holt Ward 40 last Feb 24 Ward pleaded guilty to murder without capital punishment which calls for a mandatory life sentence lie waived a 24-hour postponement of sentence and was immediately sentenced by Judge William Woods The plea was made in the presence of his curt-appointed attorney Giddens Jr and District Atty John A Richardson who said the plea was acceptable to the state Richardson said the sheriff's department "performed an excellent and prompt investigation However considering the facts of the whole case we feel that certain elements indicate that the possibility of a trial jury returning a capital verdict is extremely remote Without Capital Punishment "Therefore the district attorney and his staff feel that a plea of guilty of murder without capital punishment is a just and proper plea and it should be accepted" Ward has been in jail without bond since his arrest and indictment by the grand jury Mrs Ward's body was found on a side the simple miscible projects (without the help of alternate water and natural gas slugs) will recover only slightly more oil in most reservoirs than the time-honored water flood method of secondary recovery "It's clear now that even such techniques as alternate water and gas slugs will not boost the oil take from miscible projects to anywhere near the 80 or 90 per cent ultimate recoveries so glowingly pictured five years ago" the Journal says Some engineers now say that by using the latest techniques to improve the sweep an operator might hike the ultimate recovery to 60 or 65 per cent of the total Others more conservative figure 55 to 60 per cent as about tops "Operators now are starting fewer rather than more miscible drives and the reasons are purely economic New Vice Chairman The understandable way through the use of motion pictures And that's exactly what the oil industry has done They have come up with a variety of films that range all the way from exploration to final consumption Markey Continental Oil active in Louisiana Petroleum Council work says that included in the petroleum film library are "films on agriculture asphalt aviation oil and gas production refining transportation research chemistry and safety Many of them have no or only a remote relationship to oil Others are specifically about a phase of the oil business" he continued "The petroleum industry makes these films available through various oil companies in the Shreveport area or through the Louisiana Petroleum Council office in Baton Rouge" Markey said A free "Movies About Oil" projects are much higher than for a water flood LPG in volume is expensive and so is gas" If future projects get sufficient production allowables from the various state regulatory agencies the miscible method would become one of the most commonly used tools of recovery If not it will stagnate the Journal says Widely applied miscible drive would mean adding billions of barrels to United States oil reserves A recent study by one company toncludes that use of the propane slug it could be applied in existing add 19 billion barrels to the nation's oil reserves This amount is almost equal to one-third of all the oil which has been produced in the United States Some operators feel the real future of miscible drive is in tertiary recovery rather than a secondary is skimming off a third Poor Sweep The miscible drive is sweeping virtually 100 per cent of the crude from the parts of the reservoir contacted by the LPG or rich gas But it is contacting a much smaller portion of the reservoir than had been expected Miscible operators blame the sorry sweep on these two factors: 1 Mobility ratio of a miscible drive is poor compared with that of a water flood 2 Variations in the rock properties (such as permeability) from place to place in the reservoir have proved much more critical than first thought But early results of more recent projects are encouraging For instance alternate slugs of water and gas following the gas phase appear to have improved the sweep I IOW Buy any other Shaver in this Ad and get this versatile MR CRAFTSMAN "Cordless" Sharer for only 699
