final week on Sunday in the galleries of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum where it opened two weeks ago The public may view the exhibit during regular museum hours The exhibit includes Miriam Kimball's "Illinois Barn" the work chosen by viewers at the opening day as the most popular in the show and awarded a special prize of $50 Also included are Jean Watt's "Infinity" which won the $25 second prize and Louis Sicard's "Indian Summer" cited for honorable mention Mrs Kimball's work is in watercolor and the other two are done in oil Approximately 60 paintings done in oil watercolor casein acrylic paint and other media are included in the show Subject matter includes landscapes floral studies portraiture and many others and the show includes a wider variety of both media and subjects than many previous ex- hibits of the group John George Will Perform In New Orleans John George son of Mr and Mrs George of Marshall Tex and piano pupil of Nena Plant Wideman has been selected for an appearance on the summer pops concert series of the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra Young George who auditioned in New Orleans recently played the first movement of the Prokofieff Third Concerto the same 'work he is slated to play on Mrs Wideman's forthcoming benefit concert for the Shreveport Symphony's scholarship fund The pianist took first place over 22 entrants from 4 states in the piano competitions conducted by North Texas State University in Denton Tex last season winning a prize of $200 a scholarship and guest appearances with the university orchestra in a home concert and one in Grand Prairie Tex No date has been set for his appearance with the New Orleans Symphony but George has been assured details for his performance will be worked out shortly lessor of the School of Sacred Music of Union Theological Seminary and fellow of the Royal College of Organists and Royal College of Choirmasters A member of ASCAP he also is a fellow of both the Ameri-can Guild of Organists and thern Royal Canadian College of Organists board member of the New York Musicians' Club and fellow of the Royal Academy of Music He has made a number of recordings of sacred music and is the composer of numerous anthems and other compositions Wyton's writings on music and related subjects have appeared in The Diapason American Organist American Guild of Organists' Quarterly Music Journal Heights 'sNY to present a recital at St Mark's Episcopal Church at 8:15 pm The program open to the pub- lie without charge will be a feature of the church's Great Masterpiece Series Wyton will remain here through Sunday to address church organists and their ministers at a noon luncheon at the East Ridge Country Club on Saturday and to conduct a junior choir festival at St Mark's on Sunday afternoon The North Louisiana chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be his host group at the Saturday luncheon where Wyton will also deliver the principal address A NATIVE OF LONDON England Wyton was educated at the 'Royal Academy of Music and holds the BA and MA degrees from Oxford University He came to the United States in 1950 after having served in organ posts in Oxford and Northampton England and as conductor of Northampton Bach Choir and Orchestra He also wa an extramural lecturer at Cambridge University for several years Wyton served for 4 years as director of music at Mary Institute a preparatory school in St Louis Mo while also hold- ina the posts of organist and choirmaster at Christ Church Cathedral in St Louis In 1954 he became organist and choirmaster at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York a dual position he still holds WYTON IS HEADMASTER of the Cathedral Choir School member of the joint commission on church music of the Episcopal church associate pro New Producer Named For Slattery's People Irving Elman has been named as the new producer of Slattery's People by Basil Grillo president of -Bing Crosby Productions Slattery's People
