Salt City. Landers Some re relationships don't go very deep that sexy. Neither is he. And we're not all that much in love never were. It's simply that he's a pig a greedy child who can't get enough of whatever is available.

There's not a nightgown or a motel in the world that would turn ine on, but a Total Man might. Jill Who Is 42 And Still Counting Dear Jill: As long as you're "Still Counting" take note of the fact that you married Jack when you were 17 years old. At that age, sex had to be the major attraction and obviously your relationship never developed into anything deeper or more meaningful. After 25 years with the "pig," you think maybe a Total Man might turn you on? That's not much of a marriage you've got there, lady, but you know it better than I. My sympathies to you both.

Dear Ann Landers: I work for the telephone company. There is one day every month that is pure hell for me and the women I work with. Maybe if I tell you about it, I will feel better. Hell Day is when we have to disconnect the phones of people who don't pay their bills. We get cussed out, called every dirty name in the book as if it's our fault that these people make long-distance calls they can't afford, or have more phones in the house than their budget can cover.

Why don't they understand that the phone company doesn't enjoy disconnecting their service? The crazy part is that most the people whose service is interrupted show up immediately and pay their bill. Why couldn't they have come down and paid a day earlier and saved a lot of unpleasantness? I have a friend who works for the gas and electric company and they have the same problem over there. Please, Ann, say a word to your readers. Not Allowed To Yell Back Dear Not: I can't think of a word to say you've said them all. And very nicely, too.

Dear Ann: I bought my fiance two shirts for his birthday and embroidered his initials on the pocket. (The shirts are white for dress. The initials, dark blue.) When he saw the initials said, "What did you do THAT for?" Then he took a razor he blade and cut the initials off. I felt hurt. Are initials on shirts in good taste or not? Needled Dear In my opinion, initials on a man's shirt are elegant if they don't belt you in the eye.

A quarter of an inch high on the pocket is a nice touch. Do you feel awkward, self-conscions lonely? Welcome to the club. There's help for you in Ann Landers' booklet, "The Key to Popularity." L.A. mayor views four years By Michael Coakley Chicago Tribune Writer LOS ANGELES it has been nearly four years since Tom Bradley, the son of Texas sharecroppers, became the first black elected mayor of the nation's third largest city.

It was a bitter campaign, with the rightist incumbent, Sam Yorty, constantly raising the racial issue in an attempt to diffuse the broad coalition was building around Bradley's campaign. Bradley's landslide victory was attributed to his ability to keep that coalition intact, particulary the large Jewish vote on Los Angeles' sprawling west side. The 59-year-old mayor must run for re-election in April and again is counting on a diverse cross-section of voters to keep him in City Hall. Most neutral observers, impressed by Bradley's popularity ratings, which continue to hover at a phenomenal? 80 per cent, rate him as a lopsided favorite. Confounded Experts Because the black population is under 20 per cent, Bradley's rise to political eminence in Los Angeles confounded the experts, both in 1969, when he nearly upset Yorty in his first run for mayor, and again four years later, when he won with ease.

But once in office, Brdley devoted considerable energy to wooing the city's white middle-class, which had viewed him with suspicion so much so that leaders in the black ghetto of Watts have grumbled that the mayor occasionally tends to forget his origins. A track star in college, Bradley spent 20 years on the Los Angeles Police Department before retiring as a lieutanant to run for a City Council seat in 1963. He won, in a district barely one-third black, thus establishing his political knack of overcoming the color barrier. Los Angeles encompasses an enormous area extending nearly 50 miles from north of the San Fernando Valley to the tip of San Pedro Bay. Most of the city is not really city at all but a seemingly endless string of suburban communities with little affinity for downtown or its ornate City Hall.

Recognizing this sense of isolation, Bradley established branches of the mayor's office in the valley and in San Pedro. These offices have helped to blunt a major charge by Bradley's critics that he ignores the neighborhoods in favor of costly downtown redevelopment. Major Opponent The mayor's only major opponent in the nonpartisan April election is Alan Robbins, 33, a conservative state senator from the valley. He has accused Bradley of being the creature of downtown businessman who, he says, want millions of dollars spent on upgrading the area while ignoring the needs of outlying communities. "We know everything can't be done in six months, but I'm confident that we'll see progress." Busing Issue There is one developing problem for which Bradley can expect no solutions from Carter the explosive issue of busing. The Los Angeles school board will be debating an integration plan this spring in the middle of the mayoral campaign.

Robbins, an implacable busing foe, believes the issue will hurt Bradley people are going to ask where the mayor has been. "Ironically, Tom Bradley could have done that (found alternatives to busing) more easily than almost any other mayor because he's black," Robbins concluded. "If he had, no one could have accused him of being a racist." Busing is even more, of an issue in Los Angeles than in other cities because of the great distances that children would be moved to achieve integration. A student from the predominantly white San Fernando Valley would have to travel roughly 20 miles, crossing the Santa Monica Mountains on the way, to reach the black and brown sections of south-central L.A. Bradley insists that he strongly opposes any "massive crosstown busing," and expresses confidence that the plan ultimately adopted will not cause widespread dissatisfaction.

The mayor appears concerned about the possibility of racial divisiveness in the campaign. "I've spent my whole public career trying to bring people together, trying to develop harmony," he says. Natural holiday decorating DALLAS (UPD) Decorations that look good enough to eat may hang from Christmas trees this year. Miniature radishes, onions and strawberries made from polyester were among the natural design themes at this summer's Christmas gift, jewelry and housewares show at the Dallas Market Center. They are made of cotton fabrics and dotted swiss in traditional red, white and green colors.

Natural colors, designs and themes were more in evidence this year than at previous shows at the The downtown redevelopment plan does seem to be Bradley's greatest problem as he begins the campaign. Although large sections of the downtown area are seriously decayed, most Angelenos, having no contact with the central business district, are indifferent, if not hostile, to the mayor's ambitious rejuvenation proposal. "It's simple," said one prominent Bradley supporter. "Most people who live in this city never see downtown. They work somewhere else and they live somewhere else.

What do they care if the whole area falls apart?" Perennial Conflict This perennial conflict between downtown and the neighborhoods more pronounced in Los Angeles than in any other major U.S. city has complicated another issue, the question of a masstransit system to serve at least parts of the metropolitan area. There now is virtually no rapid-rail transit for the 7 million inhabitants of Southern California. The busy system, in those areas, where it exists at all, is woefully inadequate. In his 1973 campaign, Bradley pledged to change all that if elected.

But four years later, a genuine mass-transit system seems further away than ever. The mayor's aides are quick to point out justifiably that the voters last year rejected a bond issue that would have financed a pilot rapid-rail system. Bradley himself believes his city will be able to make significant progress on transportation and other urban problems now that there is a Democratic administration in Washington. I have a crocheted doily with a stand-up Heloise ruffle. My neighbor made it for me about 35 years ago. She starched it with sugar-starch, laid it flat on a table, stretched the ruffle, soft points drink up bottles and (one inside the doily and one outside).

The ruffle stuck to the sides of the bottles. When dry, she removed the bottles and the ruffles stood perfectly. They Catholic league plans lunch The first event of the new club year for the Catholic Woman's League is slated Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Hospital, Moreau Hall. The Most Rev.

Over low heat, stir until this solution is clear and not sugary, making sure it does not come to the boiling point. Pat with cloth to remove excess moisture and let dry thoroughly. May this help all you other ladies who have those beautiful crochet pieces and want them to look elegant.

Is there any harm in allowing frost to accumulate in my refrigerator's freezer compartment? Yes. Frost buildup of more than A. inch makes the cooling unit work harder and use more electricity.

Defrost conventional refrigerators twice a month and freezers at least annually. Clean the condenser coils (located at the bottom or back of the refrigerator or freezer) at least twice a year, using the nozzle attachment of your vacuum cleaner. Dust which accumulates on the condenser coils forces the cooling unit to operate longer to maintain the proper temperature setting. Self defrosting models should not build up frost; if yours does, it should be inspected by the repair service of your appliance dealer or the manufacturer. "Instant-on" TV's Is it true that "instant-on" television sets use more electricity? Yes.

"Instant-on" television sets A. use a small amount of electric current even when the set is turned off. One way to eliminate this waste is to plug the set into an outlet controlled by a wall switch. Another alternative is to install an additional on-off switch on the set itself or in the cord to the outlet; some "instant-on" sets have a built in switch usually labeled "vacation" which turns off the "instant-on" feature. When the set is on, however, it uses no more energy than other sets of the same size and type.

Transistorized (solid state) sets use less energy than sets with vacuum tubes. Address your questions or suggestions to Reddy Kilowatt, P.O. Box 899, Salt Lake City, Utah 84110.
