at 4th Ave. Conditions at Dyker Links Not as Bad as They Are Painted by Sunday Folks Joseph M. Hopkins, President of Dyker Beach Park Golf Club, States Course Will Be Splendid in Near Future; McManus, Cox Aid By Joseph M. Hopkins, Golf Club, is angry. The tion which already boasts very strenuously to the Home Talk on the various ball disappear.

Mr. Hopkins claims any one stealing the little, There may have been innumerable fashions of light fingered artists plying their trade along the Dyker links in the past, but with present conditions of eagle-eyed scouts and special policemen stationed at various points, Mr. Hopkins contends that today it is a difficult task. "It is only natural," agrees Mr. Hopkins, "that ball is hit out of bounds that golfer will be "the obliged to pay anywhere from five to 20 cents to retrieve that ball all depndening on just how much it service it had seen.

I think a youngster is entitled to that much change if he chases a ball and returns it to its rightful owner." As for the employment of a trained dog to run out onto the course, gobble up the ball and bring it back to its master. Mr. Hopkins don't see sense in thot at all. In all his 22 years of golf playing he has yet to see any dog, working in cahoots with a human, pilfer a golf ball. The idea of taking a branch and working it about so that a golf ball can be lifted into a tree where is stationed one of these petty thieves who has a piece of thread attached to the branch, also finds disfavor with Mr.

Hopkins. He states most emphatically that a golf ball is too heavy to be purloined in that way. The sixth, ninth and eleventh holes which had been sorespots for some time are all under the surveillance of special policeman ASsigned by the Park Department. At the sixth hole the stationed policeman comes practically to the apron. When these guards go for lunch or dinner there is always some one there to serve as relief man.

Mr. Hopkins belittles all rumors AS to the dissatisfaction of the caddies. "All stories a bout strike amony the caddies are felse and groundless. Harold McManus, the course superintendent, has the caddies under his arm. I can say for a certainty that they will not strike.

Any talk in that direction is sheer nonsense," he asserted. Mr. Hopkins laments the fact that golfers buy balls from unauthorized salesmen. A practice like that, he contends, cannot be stopped very easily. It is natural for a golfer who uses many balls to welcome a bargain, but the vast majority will not buy balls from people they fear might be phonies.

Wiffy Cox, famed golfer who is the pro at Dyker; McManus and Mr. Hopkins are all trying as diligently as is humanly possible to make the Dyker course one of the fiest in existence. They desire to make the links bettr for the playr's bnefit, and are working day and night in that direction. The Park Department and Commissioner of Park are also behind this movement which will undoubtedly prove victorious. An effort is being made to separate the links from the beach, SO that after a while people going to the beach wil not be obliged to pass through the golf course.

"There is also a possibility," according to Mr. Hopkins, that a clubhouse will be erected. "It may even be there by the first of the year." The Dyker Beach. Park Golf Club is one of the more flourishing golf units in existence. A membership of 1,000 is expected to be attained very shortly.

Members are signing up in rapid style and the club will soon be quite a forceful factor in golf circles. It is non-sectarian and non -political. The primary aim of the organization is to teach the golfing element the rudiments of clean golf. It is planned to hold weekly tournaments nthe Dyker course, and the Park Department has made plans for a series of tourneys to continues Into October, "There is one thing I would like verym uch to do," concluded Mr. Hopkins, "and that is to take you down with to the links some time and show you about the place.

I merely want to show and prove to you that today the Dyker Beach Park golf course is not only a much improved links but also an enjoyable place whereon to swing golf clubs and play a round of golf." Many Local Residents Visit Camp Livingston Last week visitors at Camp Livingston, on Sunset Lake, Livingston Manor N. included Dr. William H. Shapiro, director of the educational forum of the Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst; Hyman Fromowitz of the history department of New Utrecht High School, and the Misses Rose and Esther Kaplan, daughters of Rabbi Nordecel A. Kaplan of Borough Park.

Other guests were Dr. Mordecel Solteam, executive director of educational activities of the Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Assoclation of America: Dr. Gottlieb, professor of education at Hunter College; Dr. Robert Gordis, rabbi of the Far Rockaway Temple; Dr. Louis A.

Warsoff, instructor of government and law at City College, and Dr. Joseph Stern, editor of the New York Law Review. LOU E. COHEN president of the Dyker head of the newly formed organizaa roster of 350 members, objected story which appeared in Friday's ways and means of making a golf that there are very few methods of white pills from the Dyker links. EXPECT ORLOFF HOME ON FRIDAY Borough Youth Was Accused of Treason by the Hitlerites Walter Orloff, who has been deported from Germany after charges of high treason had been instituted against him by the Hitler regime, is expected to arrive here Friday, his father, Henry Orloff, a retired builder, of 1982 74th stated today.

"I am so distracted by the entire affair," said Mr. Orloff, "that I can hardly believe my son is actually coming home. I shall have to see him first to know for myself that he is safe and that everything is all right." Orloff is a graduate of New Utrecht High School, class of 1927, and of the University of Pennsylvania, and was studying medicine at Griefswald University in Germany when he ran afoul of the Nazis. It was claimed by the German government that he participated in anti-Nazi goings on and was to be tried on the charge of high treason until the American Consul General interceded. "Of course: I was shocked very much to hear about the trouble, in which Walter was, but I the American Government would step in.

The newspapers here were wonderful, bringing the unforunate situation to the attention of higher officials. I am glad that was sent home instead of going through the hardships of a trial." He refused to answer many questions and stated that once his son comes home he will be only too glad to discuss the entire case-but first must see that Walter is all right and near what he has to say about the whole affair."
