Colligan, newly-- elected president of Hunter College, was presented yesterday afternoon with the silver medal of merit conferred by the Italian Government for distinguished educational accomplishment. Colligan to succeed Dr. James A. Kiernan as president of Hunter College. Lauded by Conway Supreme Court Justice Albert Conwway of Brooklyn, a boyhood friend of Dr. Colligan, was another speaker.

He described him as "one of the most just men I have ever known" and said he is "exactly the same today as he was 28 years ago when I knew him as a boy." Others who spoke were: Mons. Michael J. Lavelle, V. pastor of St. Patrick's Cathedral; Dr.

George J. Ryan, president of the Board of Joseph Bradley Murray of 31 Montgomery Place, prominent Catholic layman who was made a Knight of St. Gregory two years ago, has received another decoration from Pope Pius XI, in being made a Knight of Malta. Mr. Murray, who is married to Theresa Farrell, daughter of James A.

Farrell, fosmer president of the U. S. Steel Corporation, is vice president of the Metropolitan Engineering Corporation and also vice jjres'ident of Thomas E. Murray, engineers. They have Ave daughters.

He Is a member of Bishop Mol-loy's Lay Committee for the support of Catholic- charities, of which his brother, Thomas E. Murray, also a Knight of St. Gregory, is chairman. He is a member of St. Francis Xavier's parish and of the Catholic Club of Manhattan, and has been identified prominently with Catholic charitable activities for more than 20 years.

J. Stanley Durkee, its pastor, said last night speaking at the first commencement exercises of the Plymouth Choir School. The graduation was held at the Plymouth In stitute, Orange and Hicks and was attended by more than 150 per sons. One hundred and 'twenty-five voices, from tiny tost Just 6 to older boys and girls and men and women who have sung in the Plymouth Church Choir for years, combined to present a program of sacred choral music under the direction of Henry Pfohl, minister of music. Wesley's "The Church's One Foundation" was sung as the processional hymn by the vested choristers.

Each group division of the combined choir gave a special number. Presents Diplomas The Rev. Dr. J. Stanley Durkee, pastor of the church, presented the diplomas of promotion to seven boys and girls.

He was acting as the president of Plymouth Institute, which sponsors the choir school as one of its varied activities. Dr, Durkee expressed great "Joy and satisfaction" in the choir's accomplishments during its first year. "Through the power of music we wll bring back, in a measure, the great days of this church, when it was known far and wide for the beauty and uplift of its singing." The Rev. J. Elmer Frazee, assistant patsor and vice president of the institute, gave the invocation and assited Dr.

Durkee in presenting the diplomas. Mr. Pfohl praised those who had helped to make the work of the choir a success. The benediction was pronounced by Dr. Durkee.

The choral response followed. Use Westminster Method Mr. and Mrs. Pfohl, graduates of the Westminster Choir School of Princeton University, gave their full time to the work of the Plymouth Choir School, using the Westminster school method. The organist is Miss Isa Mcllwraith.

The music committee, which inaugurated the work of the school, includes Russell T. Starr, chairman; Mrs. Ralph G. Stone and J. Edgar McDonald.

Columbus Council Holds Card Party More than 1,600 attended the annual Spring card party and dance given last night by the Columbia Council, K. of at the Columbus Club, 1 Prospect Park West. James F. Langan was committee chairman. Members of the Columbus Women's Club assited in the arrangements. Mrs. Prince Again Elected Music Settlement Head Other Officers Chosen at Annual Sleeting Seek $5,000 to Meet Deficit Mrs.

Benjamin Prince was re elected president of the board of directors of the Brooklyn Music School Settlement for her 13th consecutive term, it was announced at the settlement following the annual meeting of the organization. Mrs. John E. Jennings, former vice president, was elected chairman of the executive committee and four new vice presidents were named. The four are Mrs.

William W. Fitzhugh first vice president; Mrs. Albert W. Melsel, second vice president; Mrs. James R.

Bartholomew, third vice president, and Frank J. Frost, fourth vice president. Mrs. Thomas L. Leeming was elected honorary vice president of the settlement.

Other Officers Re-elected Other officers re-elected were Mrs. Walter Hammitt, corresponding secretary, and Mrs. Henry C. Turner, recording secretary. Four new board members elected were Mrs.

Merrill Foote, Mrs. Nathaniel P. Rathbun, Mi's. Frederick Kalley and Mrs. Walter Watton.

In receiving reports from Kendall K. Mussey, director of the settlement, Miss Katherine Madden, field secretary, and Miss Edith Smith, registrar and director of the social service work, Mrs. Prince paid tribute to the support given the school during the past year. The difficulties encountered in meeting the settlement budget this season are not due to a "lack of loyal friends," Mrs. Prince declared, but because of the inability of an increasing number of students to meet the small fee charged for the settlement work.

Must Raise $3,000 If the settlement is to open free from debt next Fall, $5,000 must be raised to complete this year's budget aencit caused by loss of rentals and fees, it was announced. The final benefit of the season will be held Tuesday, when the gardens of the Pratt estates at Glen Cove and the garden of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur V. Davis of Mill Neck will be inspected.

I. U. Players Present First Varsity Play The Long Island University Play ers last night presented their first varsity play, "Louder, Please," at the Central Branch Y. M. C.

To Spend $280,000 In June for Relief The Emergency UneniDlovment Relief Committee has appropriated $280,000 to be expended for unemployment relief in New York City during June, according to Harvey D. Gibson, chairman of the committee.
