Vaudeville's "New Era' Kit J'iSii' 1 THE It's Always CoolOriTJieWater, 3 53 yacationlrip, entific device for ventilation, heating, cooling, safety, comfort and luxury, would have caused a sensation if it was opened on Broadway, Manhattan, 10 years ago. One of the most impressive phases of this seasonal celebration of "New Era Week" was the simultaneous opening of about 70b stage shows. ville's "New Era" and incidentally the official Brst week of the new 1928-29 season is now history. "New Era" week, marked, of course, the final welding and melding of the two major circuits. Keith-Albee-Or-pheum is now. the banner of major vaudeville in Market San Fran-Cisco, just as It la in Broadway, New York. The advertising, letter-heads, billboards and electrict signs in ths East, West, North and South last week flashed the same trademark, the same slogan.

The two major circuits became "engaged" about a year ago; the banns were first published in these columns and the "nuptials" not only came off with what the boys call "pomp and skill," but last week the real honeymoon started with what they call "vaudeville's New Era." To an observer seeking for tangible and demonstrated evidence of this "new era" fulfilment the physical and material proof comes first by way of the cost of the new vaudeville theaters which are now being added to the array of Keith-Albee-Orpheum houses. Flatbush, Long Island, Flushing, Rochester, in our own State; Memphis, Tennessee, Boston, birthplace and culture bed of American vaudeville, and a dozen widely scattered localities are "observing" the new era of vaudeville by opening theaters that are not surpassed anywhere In the world.
