Kostic claimed the 400-meter dash in 58.2 followed by John Kuczyn-ski's wins in the 800-meter (2:16.5) and (5:04.2) runs. Evangelista won the 100-meter dash in 11.9 and Veazie finished first in the 200-meter dash in 23.6. Jamie Dixon claimed the high jump (5-10) and pole vault (10-6).

Joe Longo and Dayne McAfee both were triple winners Wednesday in helping Hazleton Area earn a split in their Wyoming Valley Conference triangular track and field meet with Northwest and Pittston Area. The Cougars (10-4) easily beat the Rangers, 134-16, but dropped a 77-73 decision to Pittston Area. Keith Greshko went all the way for UNICO to gain the win, allowing eight hits, while striking out five. Matt Scarcella was the loser, striking out 12. Matt Temchatin, Brian Jamelli and Kevin Lindemuth added a single each for UNICO. Latoff also had a strong game catching for UNICO, throwing out three runners attempting to steal. Dan Heckman belted a home run and double for Ferdinand's, Scarcella and Nick Goralewski each had two singles, Chris Hutchison doubled and Danny Carrell had a single.
