Denver Meeting (Continued frotn Preceding Page) faculty representatives when asked their individual views: A SORENSEN Utah can see considerable danger in the plan particularly in method of enforcing its limitation However I can appreciate the excellent reasons behind the plan and if control can be assured it is worthy of careful consideration A CHRISTENSEN ana remaining neutral on this proposal but I recognize the difficulties under existing conditions The general trend is to look at these things more frankly and to realize that the boys deserve consideration 1 am particularly interested in such a plan in the training period before school opens The expense necessarily Is an important factor FLOYD CROSS Colorado Aggies arrd more I can see these things from the viewpoint of the boy involved Certainly playere should not be penalized for meaningless foolish rules Colleges demand much of their athletes and while such a modified training table may be 'giving the boys may be a valuable thing to give Physical welfare of these players makes the suggestion an important one ECKEL Colorado University "I definitely oppose the plan To my mind It is an extension of subsidization of athletes and would cause an unnecessary anil unjustified expense MeWHINNIE "I prefer not to express an opinion at this time as I have not gone into the matter fully I am particularly interested in possible methods by which a modified training table could be controlled and kept within legitimate bounds A NELSON "In my opinion no conference school can stand the additional expense which such a training table would MARSHALL University of "There is much to be said for the suggestion of a modified training table but I do not believe that the long-standing rule against this practice as adopted train Thcy will arrive in Salt Lake- City Sunday (Continued from Preceding Page) difficulty and these undoubtedly will stand as announced Quiet Session schedule deliberations were quite harmonious With no serious deadlocks occurring like the Utah-Denver mixup which jeopardized approval of the 1938 grid docket late Friday night Denver and Colorado universities had some difficulty getting together but this was satisfactorily adjusted during the afternoon by a compromise move and all ended well The irate Denver representatives who unofficially hurled threats of withdrawal Friday night after the conference ordered the Pioneers to meet football team in Salt Lake City rather than Denver on October 29 1938 had cooled off considerably Saturday and there appears to be no serious doubt of carrying out the conference mandate imposed late Friday night by a six to one vote Preserving the distinctive sectional designation was the reason prompting adoption of the lengthy title for the new conference It had been known as the Seven" since the schools withdrew from the old twelve-member Rocky Mountain conference last spring Due to the unwieldly nature of the new name it is quite likely
