veots Center Section OGDEN UTAH TUESDAY EVENING SEPTEMBER 25 1973 IB Wants Exclusive Decision in Direct Dispute Of Utah Board of Education The Utah Board of Higher Education wants exclusive control over all state financed post-high school education including vocational and technical training This position expressed here Monday puts the higher board on another collision course with the Utah Board of Education which contends it has constitutional control over the entire education system Meeting as a committee of the whole Monday at Weber State College the higher board voted unanimously to ask the Utah Legislature to draw the line of authority between the two boards at the post-secondary level This position was endorsed by officials of all postsecondary institutions except the two technicrl colleges Presidents of the technical colleges in Provo and Salt Lake City said they would prefer to be governed by the Utah Board of Education These two presidents also Chairman Appointed Initial Meeting Scheduled Thursday A 16-member Weber State College Special Events Center promotion committee will hold its first meeting Thursday Chairman Don Spainhower said the committee will meet at 7:30 pm in room 352 of the WSC Union Building Mr Spainhower said the committee is comprised of media and advertising professionals who will assist in developing programs for promoting the campaign to raise additional funds for construction of the college facility Appointment of the committee and Mr Spainhower director of college relations as its chairman was announced today by Dean Hurst and Dale Gardner co-chairmen of the general campaign This is the second of five committees that are being created to help raise the additional funds necessary to build a 12000-seat special events center for college and community use WILL ASSIST A 20-member advisory committee has been appointed previously to assist the general committee and each of the working committees Two Weber State alumni Mr and Mrs Donnell Stewart have agreed to match funds contributed by the community to obtain the approximately $1 million needed to construct the larger facility A goal of at least $650000 has been set by the
