sold the 1 1 THE BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE. NEW YORK, FRIDAY, JUNE 12., 1914. FOUR YOUNG WOMEN GET LAW SHEEPSKINS Fifty-eight Degrees in All Conferred by Brooklyn School of St. Lawrence University. DR.

BOYNTON MAKES ADDRESS. Dr. Gunnison Confers Degrees- F. Donlan Honor Man of Class. The twelfth annual commencement exercises of the Brooklyn Law School of St.

Lawrence were held last night at the Theater. Universitio -eight degrees were conferred, four of the graduates being young women. The address to the graduating class was delivered by the Rev. Dr. Nehemiah Boynton of the Clinton Avenue Congregational Church.

Dr. Boynton struck a very optimistic note in his address and sought to drive home the idea that the graduates were going out into a world which is a great deal better than many people proclaim it. As he expressed it: "You are not Br J. F. DONLAN Winner of First Prize for Best Scholastic Record at Brooklyn Law School.

going out into an evil world that needs to be made good but into a. good world which needs to be made better." The degrees were conferred by Dr. Almon Gunnison, president of St. Lawrence. There were thirty-six candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Laws, twenty-one for Master of Laws, and one for Doctor of Jurisprudence.

James F. Donlan, who is secretary to Third Police Commissioner Godley, was the honor man of the class. He was awarded a medal by Dean William P. Richardson for having made the best scholastic record for his three years. His general average was 95.5 per cent.

Herbert Bauersfeld won the second prize with an average of 93.5. The following received honorable mention: Thomas J. Kinsella, Emanuel Mehl, Arthur H. Rush and Harrison E. Persons.

A large audience crowded the theater and two of the boxes, which were appropriately decorated with electric shields and banners, were occupied by members of the two fraternities of the Law School, Theta Phi and Phi Delta Phi. The gathering was deeply impressed by Dr. Boynton's address. "It 1 is a great day," said he, "when men step into a world to share its fortunes and to minister to its nobler ideals. Especially is there rejoicing when men come with trained minds to do the work of the world upon the higher levels, for from these it may be expected at least that buoyant faith will prove that aspite of all contradiction, this is world to be made better and not a wholly evil world to be made good.

"No man can do much for his world who entertains a meager opinion of his age or regards fault-finding and traducing his generation as real tions to the weal of the body politic. 'To see clearly and to see whole' is a great present day consummation devoutly to be wished regarding our world and our institutions. We have fallen under the temptation of suspicion in our age and it is popular to Ax at least the critic's eye upon all sorts and conditions of men. Even lawyers are sometimes regarded in an unfavorable light and the law itself as a commodity for the benefit of those whose purse is long enough to secure its benefits. If you do not believe in your world, especially your world of law, it is a favorable opportunity for you to revise your fundamental decisions." Dr.

Boynton singled out three qualities which he said the world demanded of successful lawyers--a cheerful, hopeful disposition, a spirit of determination, and a devotion to calling. Ho warned the graduates not to be too particular about having a face like judge or a learned counsellor and he also decried the present tendency of the younger generation to substitute flabbiness for determination. Dr. Boynton also said that nowadays there is a horrible fashion of accentuating all evils. He reminded his audience that a person carrying a muck- You SoftWhiteliands Bylsing Cuticura SoapExclusively And Cuticura Ointment occasionally, They succeed when others fail.

INSISTS ON FULTON SUBWAY Franklin Trade Board Again Declares Is Obsolete. That residents along Fulton street are ready to oppose the third tracking of the Fulton street elevated by the B. R. T. and that nothing short of a subway will appease them, is the gist of two letters which the Franklin Board of Trade will forward to the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company this week.

The letters were introduced at the regular meeting of the board last night at Fulton street, by the transportation committee which is composed of President E. W. McGuire, Secretary A. Ludlow Perkins and W. H.

Perry, ad they were approved at once. Harry A. Bullock, staff assistant to President Williams, with whom the committee conferred some time ago on the attitude of the B. R. T.

toward a Fulton street subway, will be advised that a canvass of property owners along Fulton street, has disclosed that the majority of them are ready to protest against the proposition of third tracking the "El," and that they stand ready to support their protests with numerous reasons. Among these are that the elevated structure is obsolete, that it is not of sufficient carrying capacity even if it tracked, that it is general nuisance and that it is damaging to property rights. President Williams is invited by the Board of Trade, to enter into an agreement with the city which the Fulton street elevated can, De superseded by a franchise for a subway from the lower end of Fulton street to Jamaica, and to put the money necessary for the proposed third tracking of elevated into the construction of the subway instead. Whether or not the B. R.

T. takes kindly to the agreed upon communications, the board is proposed to go right on with its own plan of building the subway by assessment. Following the regular business, Cornelius M. Sheehan of Aliled Boards of Trade, addressed the members on the details of subway construction. DANCE THIS EVENING.

This evening, at St. Brendan's Hall, East Twelfth street and Avenue a dance will be given to the members of the minstrel troupe who performed on May 27 for the benefit of St. Rosalle's Church, of which the Rev. Locksley A. Appo is rector.

City. DR. BLAKE'S FUNERAL. Body Taken to Troy, N. for Interment.

The body of the late Dr. James A. Blake, who died on Tuesday at big home, 352 Jefferson avenue, after year's illness, was taken to Troy, N. today, and there interred. Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his late residence, the Rev.

Dr. S. Parkes Cadman, pastor of the Central Congregational Church, of which Dr. Blake had long been a member, officiating. Relatives and friends of the deceased filled the parlors and many beautiful floral tokens grouped about the casket, attested the popularity of the physician.

Dr. Cadman referred to the fine work Dr. Blake had done for the church and especially in the Sunday school, where he was for many years a tencher. Dr. Blake is survived by a widow, a son, Dr.

James E. Blake, and a daughter, Mrs. Alice Blake Houghtaling. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, came East, took the study of medicine and graduated from Columbia University, Physicians and Surgeons. He was a specialist in diseases of the ear, nose and throat, and for years was connected with the Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital.

He was not, however, connected with the Brooklyn Eye and Ear Hospital. Dr. Blake was charter member of the Union League Club, and for time a member of the Invincible Club.
