Up to this time Sand Springs had not been platted and the only service rendered in he way of transportation to the Sand Springs Home was the MKSLT railway to a flag stop at the present site of the greenhouse or by horseback or buckboard After the survey was completed the Sand Springs Interurban Railway Co was chartered to operate by gas elec tricity or steam power In March 1911 grading was started for a road from Third street in Tulsa and ir 43 days a single line track was laid from Third street to the present Home Station (the greenhouse) On May 10 1911 he first trip was made in what at that time was the most luxurious car manufactured and known as the McKeen motor car This was a self-propelled gasoline driven car consisting of engine-room bag gage car smoker and a parlor steel construction Two of these magnificent cars were placed in operation together with steam locomotives which depart ed each one and one-half hours from each terminal In order to handle to better advantage the crowds attending the opening of the Sand Springs park it was decided to electrify the line This work started in 1912 and for a number of years three classes of power were electricity and gasoline however the gasoline cars were not constructed to meet the condition and these cars were sold one being placed in Texas and another in Oklahoma After dispoing of these luxurious cars the construction work was pushed until the line was completed through what is now known as Sand Springs and continued on to the Sand Springs park For many years cars operated both ways through Sand Springs to Sand Springs park returning through Sand Springs This continued until the loop was completed and the line was completed and the line built to connect with what is now known as Lake Station
