FOOTBALL, MEN DOING HARD "WORK Tna Kansas University Eleven Showinjr Up Good Snaps on tbe Field, The Kansas university football team is showing np in good shape in tbe practice on McCook field this week. The men are lining up against the second and third elevens, and seem to be able to hold their ground in good shape, aeainst the odds on the other side. Coach Yost is giving his men instructions as to how to play, to prevent gains when the other side has the ball, and though the Kansas line this year will be a light one, compared with what it has been in previous years, the boys are being coached so that they will be able to hold a much heavier lot of men. The snap and vigor put in the play is encouraging to the supporters of tbe team, and tbe men go into tbe practice as though they meant to fit themselves for the regular games to come.

The team has not been selected but with Mahan at center, Tucker and Wilcox at guard. Murphy as one of the tackles, Moore and Avery as halves, and Benme Owens as quarter and Gavin as full back, and good men in other places, it is readily seen tha Kansas will have a strong football team his year. The line-up last evening was the first of the season, and its results were entirely satisfactory to coach, captain and players, as the Varsity with thirteen men against it, including Dr. Naismith, held its line in good shape. The first meal was taken at training quarters this morning, and this will tend to assist the boys to get in good shape for the hard work of the coming few weeks.
