two plays later In the fourth quarter a short punt and intercepted pass set up Careon-Newman's other scores Neyle Sollee standout tailback prospect for the U-T yearlings got Tennessee in trouble 'first when he dropped a pass from center on a fourth-down kick attempt and fell on the bail on the Vol 35 Peake Scores First Charley Bryant sophomore C-N halfback from Morristown reeled off 20 yards down to the 15 on the first play and Ronnie Peake former Knoxville Fulton athlete circled end on a reverse few the remaining distance and the touchdown Bryan kicked the first of three conversions' Carson-Newman no wwith 2-3 record threatened again Just before the half but time ran out with the rookie Vols holding for downs on the one Bryant Fred Bradley and Nick Hyder moved the bail 71 yards in and weaving like Jack Dempsey going after an opponent sped past the Mocs for 25 yards to score the first TD in 2 minutes and 45 seconds of the first quarter i Five other Vds Anderson Cantrell Bronson Smith and Carl Hannah later took part in the Tennessee scoring spree Tennessee partisans got what they wanted to see when Smith the powerful running sophomore from Washington Court House smashed left tackle and outran the Mocs for 58 yards to score the fifth touchdown run the twisting side-stepping type The big fellow simply got out front and le- everybody behind MOCS BOUNCE BACK After quick touchdown in the opening period the Moccasins set off an offensive charge that kocked the Vols back on their heels They moved the ball 74 yards with Bill Butler hitting right guard for the tally A short time later Anderson went 15 yardson a close reverse at left tackle to give toe Vols a 2-to-l touchdown lead-In toe second period Cantrell plucked a pass thrown by the quarterback John Green and scurried 22 yards for a touchdown The Vols led' 21-6 at the half Bronson raced off right tackle for 17 yards in the third quarter to make it 28-6 Still the Moccasins were far from subdued They went 61 yards in the third period to score the drive being climaxed when Green connected with Butler on an eight-yard pass in the end zone Smith's 58-yard gallop enabled the Vols to increase their lead to 35-13 And midway of the final period tailback Carroll Young passed to end Carl Hannah from the eight for the Vols' final TD BRONSON SHOWS POWER The Mocs still had plenty of fight left late in the game as they went 69 yards to chalg up a third touchdown Jack Wilks one of the finest backs on the field went over right guard from the one-yard fine for the tally Tennessee's extra point kickers had another perfect day Bob Smithers converted after three touchdowns: Cantrell kicked couple and Smith added one Bronson was Tennessee's big- A near-capacity crowd of 39-500 watched the 185-pound Vann open up offense at full throttle for the first time this season -Vann who- Is listed a second stringer to Wade Mitchell but actually splits the playing time passed 30 and 18 yards for scores bucked one yard for another and set up two touchdowns one with a pass and the other by recovered fumble He added the spice with his first extra point boot at the season There were no individual stars among ignited first scoring drive with a beautifully executed bootleg play good for 19 yards then he threw to Flowers who turned it into a 23-yard gainer before being pulled down at the LSU 2 Fullback Ken
