funds for these good modes of transportation" After the ribbon-cutting ceremony Ferris told reporters he was concerned with the apparent deterioration of the existing road systems in Tennessee "We need to put more emphasis on the present systems'' he said Ferris said hellas three priorities in mind for the DOT First priority Ferris said is the "substandard bridges in the state maintenance of the present system is the second priority and the third priority is the completion of corridors we are committed With federal funding for ARC becoming less generous Ferris would not be pinned down to a completion date for the North Carolina to Erwin corridor of State Route 137 other than to say it will "probably be something beyond 1985" The newly-opened section of two-cent line and diesel representatives and DOT officials Ferris told the crowd projects just don't spring off the drawing boards" "It's time to throw aside the adversary relationship between government and industry and for us to encourage and attract new industry" Ferris said "This corridor will do that for this area" Ferris reaffirmed his commit tment to complete DOT's plans of joining North Carolina and Virginia with the Appalachian Highway Project Route 137 "Governor Alexander is committed to it and so am Ferris said of the proposed highway which carries a price tag of $30 million tersection of John Dennis and
