candidates Some of the Democrats just got so accum-tomed to voting for Republicans that they kept at it all down the line and included the office of county committeeman Where vacancies were left in the committees they may be filled by the vote of the committee following the organization meeting which is to be held in the near future Joachim Joins Republicans Former Mayor John Joachim who has always been considered a pretty good Democrat came over into the old fold at the primary agd was named a member of the committee from the seventh ward He received twenty-five votes one of the largest Mo-Phail Boston" all even HAD NOT HEARD OF CONFERENCE By Associated Press Leased Wire) New York If' any conferences is being held in Baltimore between striking shopmen and railway heads it involves only a few individual roads and does not look toward settlement of the strike on a nation-wide basis it was said today at headquarters of the Association of Railway Executives Louis Star is Called in Pending Hearing Friday CHARGE MISCONDUCT Patrolman Said to Have Been Making Rounds in an Intoxicated State Keeping faith with the citizens And tax-payers of Kenosha who ask for efficiency and integrity among the police officers as amongst other officials paid by the city Chief of Police Logan brought another star down upon the -arpet Tuesday with the 'Suspension of vtrolman Louis Kautenburg The police officer is charged formally with drunkenness while oh duty Monday night September 4th The patrolman who has been on the force about seven years will be given a bearing beford the police and fire commission at its regular meeting next Friday evening and it will then be up to the commission to decide whether or not he will remain on the force Still Made His Beat Kautenburg was making his rounds as patrolman on the west side late on the night of Labor Day when it was reported to Assistant Chief Cyzak who was in command of police for the right that he was intoxicated while puiling a box at the corner of Market street and' Howland avenue In response to the report the assislant thief set out to find the erring patrolman 'and returned to the police station to wait until his call came in When Kautenburg pulled his next box it was found where he was stationed and he wasVbrought into the "station and ordered to go home The patrolman it is said refused to turn in his tools and was inclined to argue the matter Insisting however that he was in an unfit condition to' continue making his rounds the assistant chief sent the man home and placed another patrolman on his heat On Tuesday the full report was placed with the chief of police and consistent with his promise that no man shall remain on the department who dishonors his uniform and is puilty of misconduct on duty the chief after listening to both sides ordered the officer suspended Only Fair to Rest of Force' might be argued that this officer should be given another said Chief Logan today I cannot see it that way If I pursued that policy any officer might think that he could disobey rules as much as he wanted until he was caught on the assurance that he would be given a second chance There should as I see it be no second chance in these matters When an officer sets out on "his rounds in his uniform he is the serv-rnt of the public and be knows perfectly well what is iexpeeted of him He knows above all Chat he must keep ober Of what good is a drunken of-rcer to the persons whose lives and roperty are in his safe-keeping while he makes his rounds? In such a condition it is impossible for him to be on the alert to arrest offenders And moreover In case he should run across a law violator it would be a disgrace for him to bring in such a person when he himself is violating the' law cnd apparently nsing his uniform to do so Is not a pleasant or an easy thing for me to do to suggest that any man be dropped from the department I know all of these men well and extenuating circumstances in every case of failure on duty may be urged I cannot however let this stand in the way of my own clear duty and allow a man to pull down the morale of
