Yet 15 Years of Age Sophia Wallos a pretty little Lithe anian girl is a student in the fourth grade at the Weiskopf sehool and notwithstanding the faet that her dresses are short and she still wears her hair down her back in a braid Sophia was booked to be a bride on next Saturday and a license had been issued for her marriage to Anton Shulker a Kenosha Lithuanian The license was turned over to Sophia for safe keeping and like a little girl that she is with a new toy she decided that she would take it to school and show it to her teacher As a result it is very improbable that the wedding of Sophia and Anton will take place on next Saturday the day scheduled The teacher of room at the Weiskopf school at onee referred the matter of the license to superintendent of schools Mrs Bradford and when the card of Sophia in the office of the superintendent was investigated it was found that Sophia according to these records was not yet 15 years of age and -not yet ont from under tha care of the school officials As under: the law Sophia was still required to go to school and the officials in charge of the Weiskopf school decided that it would be a little incongruous to have a -married woman in the fourth grade they took the matter up with the district attorney! -Last Saturday after-nkrtai SopluaV-AUCtt new marriage lieense over -to a police officer and he turned it over to the district attorney This morning the district attorney told Sophia that she could not have the license back until after she was able to show by competent proof that she was old enough to be married in this state When the license was issued Sophia dia not accompany her intended husband to the office of Connty Cleric Jones Shulker went to get the license accompanied by John -Wallos the father of Sophia The groom to be made an affidavit that Miss Wallos was seventeen years age and her father gave his consent in writing to the is-( suanfce of the license for the marriage of the daughter The father declared that the girl was under eighteen years of age but he did not state the xaet age Relatives of the girl claim that she is seventeen years of age but the records in the office of the superintendent of schools -are based on her own statement1 at the time she en- tered the Kenosha schools a few years ago The young woman is pretty and bright and since entering the schools her advancement has been rapid The wedding ceremony was to have been performed by the Rev Stefanitia of St Peter churchy but the minister is co-operating with the officials and will insist he be' Settlements Among Heirs Not Reported to the Court Leave Cloud on Title of Real Judge Seeks to Get Pinal Accountings for These Estates ur County Judge George Taylor and Registrar in Probate DeDiemar are making their annual effort to enforce the closing up of settlements of estates' pending for settlement in Kenosha county There are hundreds of these unsettled estates some of them dating back many years and although repeated efforts have been made to force attorneys close them up the final accounts have not yet been filed of these estates run back Jr thirty said Judge Taylor this morning course in such cases there is no property to be disposed of but5 we Jiavef a number of estates dat-ing(baek as'far as ten years in which property rights are concerned It is just possible that these matters in some cases have been settled with 4- agreements made out of court with consent of the heirs but if this is the fact it is the duty of the attorney who closed up the matter to file with the court a copy of the agreement 1 and show the final closing -of the estates We have some estates pending for settlement in which attorneys who started the cases have died a long" while ago and the heirs to these estates have scattered all over the country There is no cash belonging to any of these estates in the hands of the court I have noticed that estates where there considerable property are closed up in pretty short order and leirs find it easier for them to agree when the amount in question is small There are some estates in whieh nothing has ever been filed but a petition for "administration There is a large number of small estates come into the court every year and many of these are neglected by the people in charge of the settlement The guardians under this court have shown a tendency to bring in their reports much better in the past few years than in former years and this branch of the court work uas been pretty well taken care of Of course there are a few tardy guardians and it will probably be neeessary to issue formal eita-tations in order to get these people into -court and secure a proper report from 1 The Official! of the court have been zealous in getting the old estate clean-eji up not only in orde? to close up the books of the court but for the protection of the heirs In several of the cases 'notice has been sent directly to (he heirs of estates urging them to see to it that their attorneys make an immediate effort to get final accounts closed in order that the court may make a final order properly divid ing estates It is expected that in the next few months following the orders sent out by the court a large number of these old estates will be closed up MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE COMMITTEE There will be a meeting of the citizens That the War Is Bringing to Societies to Contribute to Fundat it Polish patriotism and the sympathy of the Polish people of Kenosha for thousands of their countrymen in want in Europe as a result of the long war was-much in evidence on Sunday afternoon when between five and six hundred of the Polish people of Kenosha gathered atTatra Hall in celebration of Polish Polish and American flags were entwined in the decoration of the stage -It was a real gathering of Poles and everything connected it was Polish Little girls bearing Polish flags sang the songs of the native country and members -of many Polish societies had a 'part in the ceremonies of the afternoon The principal purpose of the observance of National Polish Day was to raise money for the relief of the Polish -people At the observance here nearly two -hundred -dollars was raised and this added to the sum that has already been 'raised in-St Church and by the' various Polish will bring the total up to close to six hundred dollars in Kenosha The I money will be given to Bishop Edward Koslowzki who will send it together with gifts from many other 'organizations in cities in Wisconsin to the central relief committee in Poland Rev Father Czerwinski of -St Church made a notable' appeal the people for support' to He spoke cf the troubles of the Polish people agnation of and declared that Poland was suffering more from -the effects of the war' in Europe than any other country He spoke of the fact that hundreds and thousands of Polish and children had been left without support as a result of husbands and being slaughtered in the trenches fighting in a war in which they had no direct interest He urged the Polish people of Kenosha to spread the news that a kindred people were in need of bread and 'clothing and declared that he felt certain that the great 'heart' of the American people would beat in sympathy with that of the Poles and that there would be a hearty response to the call for aid Father Czerwinski had in his address a note of hope for he -seemed to see some possibility of Poland securing her freedom as one of the results of the great European war At least he expressed a hope that religious liberty would be granted to the Poles The seven Polish societies in Kenosha will continue the effort to raise money for the relief fund and it is probable that before the fund is closed in Kenosha it will reach the one thousand dollar mark 1 1 NOTICE TO TAX PAYERa Notice is hereby given that the annual tax list has been committed to me for the purpose of collecting the taxes therein Build New Fence on the Grounds The old settlers of Kenosha county are getting tired of the 4 young stealing their annual reunion and a sentiment in favor of a real old fashioned picnic for the old settlers and the old settlers alone cropped out at the annual meeting of the Old Settlers club of Kenosha county held at the county court room this morning The men who want a gathering just for the suggest that this picnic be held some time in June and that it be understood that it is a gathering for old settlers and not a combination reunion side show and dance7with a ball game as a side issue like the annual reunion in August of the real old timers do not care a snap for the annual reunion said one of the members of the board of directors the reason is that the old settlers are overlooked and the champion pitcher at the ball game is given the real honors of the day There are a lot of young old 'men in Kenosha county and women too who would like to have just one day of their own when they could get together without some ribald band playing modem tunes and have a little reunion all their own Old settlers of Kenosha county would travel miles just to attend such a meeting There is mo desire to do away with" the August1 reunion That has become a 'fixture in the county calendar and we want td retain it but there is a lot of agitation for the holding of a real old settlers' old-fashioned picnic in This matter was discussed at the annual meeting and it will be taken up at the meeting of the board of directors to be held later President Torrey presided at the annual meeting today and the old settlers were conspicuous by their absence 1 Most of the old felt that they were getting too old to endure the bad trip to Kenosha and the work was largely left for the today Reports of the condition of the club were exceedingly encouraging They showed that the club has a balance of $200 in the treasury It was decided to take this money and build the new fence on the north
