Baensch of Manotowoc the candidate for the Republican nomination in this state will come to Kenosha on Thursday for a heart-to-heart talk with the people of the city The visit of Judge Baensch will be his first visit to Kenosha in many years and his friends are planning to give him a cordial reception The plans for the reception have as yet not been made but it is probable that Judge Baensch will secure rooms at one of the hotels of the city and will keep open house during the day In announcing his intention to visit Kenosha Judge- Baensch stated that le was proud of the many letters that re had received from this county assuring him that his candidacy was favored here but he stated that he was unwilling for the people of the county to accept him as a candidate without getting acquainted with him To this end his visit on Friday It is probable that during his stay in Kenosha Judge Baensch will be able to make a short address to the people in which he will outline his ilans for the campaign The Mano-owoc candidate is rapidly gaining ground about the state He is not in any way a factional candidate for the office and in the past campaigns he las stood with the straight Republican ticket regaerdless of his personal preferences The platform which he has offered to the people of the state is such a good one that every Republican of the state should be pleased to support him on such a platform Judge Baensch il well liked among the Germans of Kenosha and several of the leading Republicans among them have long urged the Judge to become a candidate for the Gubernatorial nomination Judge Baensch is in no way conducting a candidacy of abuse and he will not have anything to say about the shortcomings of the present governor Judge Baensch is looking for the support of all Republicans in the state but he will not seek to secure it by running down and abusing any other candidates for the same honor 289 plurality 83 JUSTICE OF THE PEACE McCarron Barnes Britton Frank Roberts chairman of the town of Bristol was defeated for re-election in that town at the election Tuesday by a majority of eight votes His successful opponent was John Lane a well known Republican of that town It seems that the fight was made entirely on Roberts and the other men on the Roberts ticket were elected The new town officers in the different towns so far as can be learned up to three follow: BRISTOL Chairman John Lane supervisors Shuart Julius Remus clerk Adams treasurer Lavey assessor George Shepard justices Roberts Bishop Pierce constables A Murdock Fdwards William Bryant SOMERS Supervisors Fnoch Haigh chair have speculated on the identity of the I man Nicholas Thomas Jacob Bar- a cp I rnwc Tampa SuPUCefl 3S- parties concerned the afiair rows clerk James Spencer GETS HIS REWARD Democracy swept the city in the election of Tuesday and the entire ticket headed by James Gorman was elected by the people of the city with the aid of the minions of Democracy which had come from foreign countries The efforts of the Republicans to instill a non-partisan spirit in the election of a city clerk met with a rebuff and Gustav Jacob who has served the city so faithfully for years was ousted from his position to mak room for George Harrington Othef city offices passed into the hands of the victors and not even an assessor or a justice of the peace squeezed through to offer solace to the defeated Gorman and his associates came marching down from the North side with pluralities amounting to over two hundred and the meager pluralities of the four south wards could not overcome the pluralities which the Democrats had received on the North side The vote cast by the Social Democrats did not in any way come up to the expectations of the party leaders and it seems probable that the Socialists turned tail and fled and placed their support largely in the Democratic column The South side remained true to its Republicanism and in nearly every ward Mayor Pfennig received a larger vote than he received two years ago With the election of their mayor and the city officials the Democracy has also taken possession of the City Council and the Board of Education and they will take full control of the reins of city government The only hope that is expressed today is that they will use the power that has been entrusted to them wisely and well There is little reason to go into the details of the defeat sustained by the Republicans as it is impossible to give any cause for it The Democrats seem to have completely hypnotized the voters in the many of the wards and the splendid service that Mayor Pfennig had given the city fell as nothing before the prating of the demagogues The vote cast in many of the wards was as large as ever has been recorded in the city and the Third ward broke all records by casting a vote of 603 This ward proved a puzzle for the politicians and on account of the heavy vote cast it was late in the evening before the Republicans were willing to concede the election of Gorman hoping that the majorities for the ticket in the Third and Fourth would be sufficient to pull out both Pfennig and Jacob In the North wards where the Democratic victories were concededrat the opening of the campaign the Democrats had wisely placed good candidates in the field and the city will probably not be the loser by their election The result of the election was forecasted by the Republicans as early as nine in the evening when it became apparent that the big pluralities for Gorman in the North wards could not be overcome But the Democrats were so taken by sur prise at the result of the election that they waited until long after 11 before they accepted the victory They had a noisy celebration The band long ago retired was called into commission and the five successful candidates were bundled into a single hack while Mat Scholey the hero of the hour perched on the box This procession made the rounds of the city followed bjT a hooting crowd of several hundred excited partisans The celebration was kept up late in the evening and all the homes of the successful candidates were visited and cheer after cheer was given in their honor Going into the statistics of the election it is interesting to note the majorities as well as the votes in the different wards The candidate of the Democracy for mayor had a plurality in the city of 88 while Gustav Jacob the candidate of the Republi cans for city clerk was defeated by 94 votes The following figures which are semi-official tell the whole story the ballots: MAYOR IN COUNTY COURT Calvin Stewart is Slated for the Office of City Attorney by the Victorious Democrats OEMS PLAN A CLEAN SWEEP NO TRACE OF MCKUNE Cases Disposed of by Judare Slosson at the Present Term of the was elected as town treasurer by the Republicans FOUL PLAY IS NOW BEING URGED CONVENTION At the election yesterday the Democrats secured control of the City Council and the members of the victorious party are already fighting over the disposition of the few offices in the gift of the council Calvin Stewart is to be rewarded for his work in the campaign and an effort is to be made to elect him City Attorney to succeed John Slater It was stated this morning that this was one of the considerations of the election and that Stewart has th? promise' of the members of the council on the Democratic side It is however possible that the Democrats will have some trouble in delivering the goods to Stewart as some of the aldermen who bear the name of Demo crat are unwilling to vote for Stewart There is one ray of hope in the whole election and that is that the Democrats will not have a chance to tackle the police proposition as all the officers are now under civil service and Mayor Gorman and his followers will have power only to appoint a new member of the police and fire commission By law this commission must be kept non-partisan The' Democrats will however have the privilege of electing a couple of street commissioners and a few other minor officers The election will result in a general shifting of things at the city-hall as the strict business methods which have been followed by Gus Jacob for some time will be superceded by the rule of a new man For the best interests of the city it is hoped that City Clerk Elect Harrington will see fit to continue the work of the office on the lines marked out by the retiring official CHURCH SUPPER- The ladies of Park Avenue church will serve an excellent 15 cent supper in the church parlor from 5:30 to 7:30 Thursday evening Racine and Kenosha He left home one morning eight months ago stating that he was going out to sell a piano Since that time there has not been a single trace found of him For a time it was thought that
