SUGGESTIONS AliOfT ROADS Before business of the caucus was entered upon Roberts made some brief suggestions in regard to bettering our roads He said the grader had done much to improve them and he thought perhaps it had accomplished nearly all it could do must now look to a system of gravelling to make an advance towards permanently good mad upon which we could travel with comfort in any season of the year But before gravelling is commenced perfect FIRST WARD drainage of the road bed must be secured There must be open ditches or tile drains to carry off the water quickly The plan suggested was to commence at some point on the road close by a bed of gravel and proceed to gravel from that Thorough drainage is an enormous benefit to a dirt road enabling it' to dry quickly and preventing its being cut up so badly If thorough drainage alone can be accomplished I For Alderman this season it would prepare the road bed for gravelling another year The For City Treasurer For -Justice of For School SECOND WARD For School in the citv this afternoon Ho stated to a representative of thi- paper that he was at the polls all day during election day and that if there had been ry fraud there he certain would hav seen asad known of it lie states that -there was no democratic ticket in the field there at all in the first place: and in the second place the election was conducted in an honorable way He says that if any charges are launched against the inspectors or other officials of the elect- said charges will have to be pin the people making the eh ge -i be held to account for sacra onuiges Other Illegality But laying aside all the charges of fraud there is another element which inters into the judicial election concerning the town of Pleasant Prairie and that is the fact that the election return were sent to the county clerk by mail which is illegal in itself and the returns were all open when they reached here which invalidates the election in that town Section 73 chapter 2SS laws of 1893 expressly provider- that a member of the can vassing board shall deliver the returns to the county cleric in person and shall receive as compensation $2 per day and cents per mile for each mile traveled PLEASANT PRAIRIE Merchants Savings Bank of Kenosha is now open for business After a short vacation Florence lleed resumed teaching in High street district No 2 Wheatland' Monday April 5 Engraved Calling Cards Calling cards and invitations engraved in latest style from copper plate at less than Chicago prices Leave or send your order or your old plate to this office Be prepared to relieve your children of Croup and sore throat by having in the home Cherry Cough Syrup Good for the old as well as young Corner Drug Store tf 346 Tf you have a artistic design 340: CH GONNERMANN 319 40 359 GEORGE HEAD Commissioner ADOLPH BURG But the man that paid for the jof got soaked the worst I fey ou would avoid such occurrences as these have your plumhin done by 28 350 A DEWEY 1 HENRY BECK 313 43 3fiC EDWIN ABEL WEWHOUSE bo able to make kitchen to paper want a ehe have it If you have three chambers to paper and want something knVjn iecd but up-to-date in style and oolor-lno-s we nave it If vou have a vHii'lpprTlinino- room and hall to paper want tlicm to be done properly and in lie latest si vies and the newest colorings we can do it Why not make a trial of our services? When the voter comes down with it aftei taking a cold he will need to tell the doctor lie a tended the caucus before any correct diagnosis of his case could be made SOME STRANGE RULINGS On the informal ballot for town clerk one candidate received more than four-tifths ot the whole vote cast and two others an odd two or three A motion was made to make the ballot formal The chair ruled the motion out of order Another voter then moved to suspend the rule and make the nomination by acclamation Tins was alsf? ruled otit Thera rulings astonished the natives and almost paralyzed the caucus Either motion could have Ik-cu properly entertained by the chair But the chairman had miud an incident in the state republican convention A candidate among several received a larger number of votes than any of the rest and an attempt was made to force his nomination on the informal ballot This would have been a manifest injustice to the other candidates and the chair refused to entertain a motion to make the ballot formal and the eviction unanimous A formal ballot resulted in the election of another candidate This is my rec-olection of the matter In our case the choice of the candidate on the informal ballot was so positive and the majority so large it was nearly unanimous that no injustice could be done any other candidate for that nomination A motion to make the ballot formal was to save time as it was plainly unnecessary what we are when we do your LAUNDRY work and save the LINEN Try the fledium Finish 3 The goods wear longer Kenosha Laundry Jsr 3552- 3fL jyujgvsgr tspv WM
