NEW CASTLE, NEWS, FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 1938. Business Shows Slight Decline After Bounding Upward For Two Months, Business Goes Into Small Decline (International News Service) PITTSBURGH, Aug. bounding upward in irregular fashion for two months, business in the Pittsburgh district declined slightly last week, the Bureau of Business Research, University of Pittsburgh, reported today. Business in most industries remained about unchanged, while moderate decreases were reported by many of the major industries in the district, the bureau reported. The bureau's adjusted index dropped 1.2 cent last, week and stood at 65.7 per cent 1923-25 average.

Despite the setback, however, the index is still nine points above the lowest level reached early in June, according to the bureau. Fairly large declines were noted bureau in production and shipments, while trade showed a small gain. Blast furnace operations were reported unchanged, but, according to the bureau, steel mill activity along with electric power production and bituminous coal production fell off. Probe Death Of 13 In Air Crash (International News Service) ROME, Aug. official investigation as launched today to discover the cause of an accident in which 13 passengers and crew members were killed when a seaplane crashed near Varese.

The plane fell into the sea in flames just after taking off. Victims included Marie Chiesa, prefect of Varese, and members of his family. The ship was owned by the Macchi Aeronautical company at Varese and piloted by Guiseppe Birei.
