Lambertville Opens With Rousing Show By BEN McELVEEN C'ourier-Times Staff Writer The Lambertville Music Circus opened its 15th season Saturday- night with a rousing, lion-roaring etc. production of Rodgers and St. John tent theatre staff inhaled deep and blew out a whopper of a puff in this musical comedy based on Ferenc rougish The entire production seemed about a notch better than last offerings. The cast of singers and dancers all appeared to be on a standard of professionalism not seen before a.nd the result was really good show. This reviewer could find only one thing wrong several scenes need to be tightened up so that the play run as long as its current three hours.

James Gannon is tall, dashing, handsome and has a fine voice in the lead role of Billy Bigelow (Liliom). Excellent Voices Pretty Christine Mathews and Susan Lehman, both innocent young things who pursue the roue Billy, have excellent voices and stage craft. When you add to this cast such real professionals as Beatrice Krebs, as Nettie; Reid Shelton as Enoch Snow, and Barbara Hayes as Mrs. Mullin, got yourself a show par excellence. is the story of a barker and bouncer for an amusement park in New England, who flirts with the working girls who frequent the show and usually steals their money and their virtue.

Good Intentions Billy is a likeable scoundrel, who has good intentions but cannot live up to them, no matter how he tries. He woes and weds Julie (Miss Mathews) and tried to mend his ways under her maternal care. Despite efforts of Mrs. Mullins Barbara Hayes) to win him back to the free and easy life at the park, Billy refuses and takes a stab at crime in order to support his wife and prospective child. Billy even botches that job too.

Even in Heaven (or rather at back door), Billy is given a chance to righten things in his life, but he fouls up that job as well. His good intentions are not good enough. The regular old staff at Lambertville is back again this year, along with a couple of pretty new faces and youthful talent. The old standards include Edward Earle, choreographer; Art Frank, musical director, and Stuart Bishop on settings. Robert Turoff does a fine job of directing this initial seasonal offering.

Some of the other cast members who did fine jobs were Richard McDonald, Jack Bittner, Max Shoaf, Brooks Morton, Daniel Keys, Cathy Conklin, Frank Piper, Bob Casally, Mike Valenti, Sarah Jean Sampson and a delightful group of boys and girls. All in all. God bless you Sin Jin for the fint production. as in praise that rhymes with amaze, and sums up the evening as pretty terrific. Coming attraction is Unsinkable Molly June 1116.
