The Kansas Water Light company started the machinery at the pump house up the river this morning. It is only temporary, however, and was brought about after two long conferences between Mr. Elias Summerfield and the committee from the water consumers association.

Immediately on Mr. Summerfield's presence being the committee made arrangements to meet him and see what could be done for relief. The first conference was held at 4 o'clock and in the, evening both parlies again met. Many different plans were proposed. Propositions to buy or lease the plant were made by the committee and Mr.

Summerfield promised to send them in to headquarters for consideration. A settlement of the differences between the city and the company was also talked over and it was upon propositions which both sides agreed to recommend for such agreement that the order was given to resume pumping. There were two of these plans proposed both of which were the outcome or the discussion. One was that the pmpany put in avery large reservoir, water to be purified as much as possible by aeration, and the hydrant rental to be paid at the rate of 65 per cent of the full amount claimed, the productive value clause repealed, and the water rates charged to remain the same as now. The other proposition was that the "lime softening" purifying process be put in.
