Kingsport Times-News Sunday November 13 1988 Vols win again stuff Rebels 20-12 Digest It was the 15th straight win for Tennessee in the month with the last loss coming in November of 1984 against Kentucky next opponent in Knoxville With the victory Tennessee improves to 3-6 for the season and 1-4 in the SEC Ole Miss is now 4-6 and 2-4 The Rebels three-point favorites coming in led 10-0 at halftime but Tennessee dominated play in the second half and finally scored on a 17-yard pass from Jeff Francis to Alvin Harper with 2:03 left in the third quarter The touchdown drive was successful despite four holding penalties Jason Julian's extra-point kick following the score was blocked and Ole Tony Bennett returned it for a two-point defensive extra point conversion under a new rule put Group AAA Lake Braddock took first place with 44 points Blacksburg wop the Group AA race with a score of 72 Western Albemarle was second at 81 points with Marion third at 136 The Group AA was won by Abingdon with 68 followed by Louisa County with 71 and Blacksburg with 76 Stonewall Jackson of Mount Jackson won the Group A with 95 points JJ Kelly was third at 127 BIG 10 SWIMMING CARNIVAL The Big 10 Swimming Carnival was held Sat urday at Dobyns-Bennett High School with 12 teams from around the area competing Farragut High School was the big winner with the boys taking first place overall and the girls pulling down second place boys scored 478 total points followed by Sullivan East with 338 and Dobyns-Bennett taking third with 336 Tennessee girls won overall with 397 points Farragut in second with 378 and Science Hill notched third with 344 Other teams competing were Sullivan North Morristown Sullivan Central Sullivan South University High Virginia High and Elizabethton KYSA UNDER-12 GIRLS FINISH TOURNEY GALLATIN The Kingsport KYSA under-12 girls soccer team traveled to the Cumberland Valley Tournament in Gallatin Saturday and Finished 1-1-1 for the event In game 1 Kingsport lost to Knoxville 3-2 with Holly Harwood scoring both goals for KYSA In game 2 KYSA tied Germantown 1-1 with Tessa Brown scoring the lone goal Kingsport got on the winning side in the third game defeating Hendersonville 6-1 Brown scored four goals and Harwood added the other two Monica Rickman Greer Leonard and goalkeeper Nicole Leonard also had outstanding performances in tournament The team Is coached by Scott Pierson and assisted by Lynn Byrd BANK OF TENNESSEE IN FINALS MEMPHIS The Bank of Tennessee Titans Under-19 boys soccer team advanced to the finals of the Under-19 Boys Open Cup Division in the State Championship of Youth Soccer The Titans defeated Castille 72 3-0 and Memphis American 6-4 in perliminary games Saturday The Titans will play the Burt Reynolds Franklin Express today at 10:45 (EST) Bank of Tennessee won the Eastern District Tournament October 30 to advance to the state tournament THE MONDAY NIGHT Sullivan South High School will sponsor a the night for winter sports Monday at 7 pm in the school gymnasium Athletes from the boys and girls basketball and swimming teams will be introduced The freshman junior varsity and varsity cheerleading squads
