Summer Whirl For Santa Cruzans August finds most Santa Cruzans involved in a round of activities from traveling, vacationing and entertaining guests at parties. Lake Tahoe is drawing its share of visitors. Dr. and Mrs. Marshall Cowden spent a few days there at Glenbrook visiting friends.

They were the guests of the Bernall Kichmonds, the Sam Nighs and A. Gardner Finns. While having dinner one evening at the River Ranch they were startled to find a copy of The Sentinel among other old newspapers used to paper a wall as part of the decor. Dr. and Mrs.

Charles Smith and son, Chutkic, arc vacationing in the King's Beach area of Lake Tahoe and leaving today for the same locale were the Ted Haibcrts and their twins, Deirdre and Jack. Each weekend has had its share of parties. The Ernie Dillons entertained earlier this month with cocktails at their Pasaticmpo home and then took their guests (70 couples) on to Pogonip for dinner and dancing. It was a black tie affair. The same day Assemblyman and Mrs.

Frank Murphy Jr. entertained with cocktails at their Pasaticmpo home. si' Dr. and Mrs. Mahlon McPherson invited 200 guests for cocktails and swimming this past Sunday at their new home in Carbonera Estates.

Although the weather was cooler than usual, 10 or 12 brave souls tried out the new pool. The McPhersons arc entertaining another group of friends this Sunday. One of the cleverest parties of the summer was one given Friday night by the college crowd. It was an Aquarius picnic on Bean Creek Road with the 30 guests all arriving in Greek togas. Hosts were Mr.

and Mrs. Steve Turner, Mark Tracy and Eric and Bayard Smith. Guests feasted on turkey, ham and roast beef and all kinds of fruits and fruit punch and did Greek dances as well as the more modern variety. Barbara Schon, who Saturday will wed Robert Leaf at Soquel Congregational Church, was honored with a linen shower Tuesday given by Mrs. Gertrude Gee and Mrs.

Mary Ellen Moc at 312 Ocean View Avenue. Among the guests were former residents of Salt Air Court which Barbara's parents, the Leo Schons, owned and operated for many years. Barbara arrived Saturday from New York City where she is employed by Saks Fifth Avenue. Robert arrived last night and tonight he and Barbara will be honored with a champagne party at the home of Barbara's cousin and his wife, the Bill Browns, 1304 Escalona Drive. Robert's parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Harold Leaf of Scarsdale, N.Y., who have been touring in Utah and Arizona, will arrive in time for the party and their sons, Aurcll, John and Roger, and daughter, Mary, will be flying in tonight. The Leafs will be hosts for the rehearsal dinner Friday night at Malio's. Also here from New York for the family wedding is Lorie Furay, who will be bridesmaid. She was Barbara's roommate at College of the Holy Names in Oakland.

Just home from Hawaii are Dr. and Mrs. Georges McCor-mick. Dawn flew over and her husband sailed in the Trans-Pacific Yacht race as a crew member of Alan Simpkins Co-lumbia 50. Their time was 12 days and 9 hours from Los Angeles to Honolulu.

The Robert Warnes have just returned from three weeks in Greece and the Greek islands. With them were Kay's mother, Mrs. Dennis Stateson of Fond du Lac, who still is a houseguest of the Warnes, and Bob's mother, Mrs. Ross Warne of Madison, Wis. The Warnes' son, Chuck, is just home from six weeks in Germany where he attended the American Institute for Foreign Studies.

He will be a senior this fall at Harbor High School. Six Cabrillo students are spending this week on a houseboat on the Sacramento River. They include Jim Sutherland, Tim Collins, Paul Smith, Mark Tracy, Lynn Gai and Eric Smith. Earl Castro and Mrs. Franz Baum of Freedom and Mrs.

Fred Littell of Los Angeles. The celebrants have 46 grandchildren and three groat-grandchildren. Julian Castro, a descendant of Joaquin Castro, early Monterey Bay Spanish pioneer, is a native of Madera County. He and the former Helen Trivana, who was born in Ventura County, were married August 19, 1919, in Santa Barbara. They lived in Santa Barbara until 1930, then moving to Pescadero.

They came to Santa Cruz in 1955. All of their 12 children and their families were present at the party which honored Mr. and Mrs. Julian Castro of 207 Escalona Drive on their golden wedding anniversary. The party took place Saturday at the IDS Hall in Pes-cadero with more than 150 relatives and friends attending.

Their children include Ben Castro of Pescadero, Mrs. Rufes Cabrera, Mrs. Virginia Duarte, Mrs. Bob Dolson, John, Julian and Richard Castro, all of Santa Cruz, Mrs. George Olivera of Salinas, Edward Castro of LaHonda, The Women's Activity Committee of Live Oak Grange meets Friday for a 12:30 p.m.
