-i -yJ 'A offense operate as smoothly as silk He even reached into his bag of tricks and came out with the razzle-dazzle stuff that Bobby Dodd used when he was playing for Wade turned the tide of the battle with a 16-yard touchdown gallop He took the ball dropped back and fiddled around in the hackfield faking to throw the ball then took off goalward He kind of threaded his way through the red-shirted Rebs as old Dodd once did to a touchdown against Vanderbilt 4 You've heard of those guys who can-thread a needle with a pass Well what Wade did early in the fourth period to start the Commodores roiling after they dropped behind 20-7 Roderick was away down the field and two Rebels were jam-up on him when Wade fired a pass The ball hit right in Roderick's hands with the Rebels grabbing for it Roderick wheeled and raced on for a touchdown The pass and run netted something like 48 yards J-: TWO KNOX BOYS SHINE FOR VANDY TWO KNOXVILLE BOYS played a big part in triumph Bob heading back to Nashville tonight singing a victory song In four games this season the Commodores' masterful pitcher has shown better control than Bob Feller He has thrown 80 passes and 'completed 48 of them for a total -of 643 yards Although he has hit only three thouchdown passes he has figured in practically all of the scoring this season While Wade was the mainspring of the Vandy offense he remarkable catches as the Rebels swarmed around them to bat the ball down And the Commodores are no slouches jn the running department either In Dick Foster Roy Duncan and Allen they have backs who can really carry file mail In fact it was the scampering of Foster and Duncan that carried the Commodores to their first-quarter touchdown -v 1 But Wade eclipsed every other back on the field slick between the two hard-scrapping teams as the Commodores upset the previously unbeaten Rebels 34-20 The Marines should give the Vanderbilt sharpshooter a marksmanship medal His eye shots in the second safetyman and a blond-haired Chattanooga T-quarterback hogged the limelight yesterday as Tennessee maintained its undefeated record with a 42-13 decision over the Moccasins Jimmy Wade playing his first college football game and hailing from Lynchburg Va Earl Dukes of Chattanooga is first to cross Goal This Year: V' YY Bp tom hleb ATLANTA Oct Darrell Crawford Georgia Tech's football "brain and aerial arm led the undefeated untied Yellow Jackets to a convincing 25-to-7 victory over Louis iana State today -r' The ex-Kingsport star throwing as he never threw before and directing a versatile attack was the mainspring of an attack that delighted the 21000 spectators at Grant Field Tech's triumph even more one-sided than the score indicates erased the previously-undefeated Tigers as an SEC threat and definitely established the Jackets as one of the stronger teams Rookies See Action It was power against finesse and varied and last attack won In fact the Jackets had the Tigera thoroughly whipped to halftime enabling Coach Bobby Dodd to give his sophomores and yearlings occasional opportunities to work up a sweat in the latter part of the second half smooth manipulation of his runners added up a total of 254 yards on the ground than twice the LSU total Crawford hit 10 out of 15 aerials to close to 110 yards and one touchdown Tech by this performance established itself as a
