Yesterday afternoon Byron White x-Clerk of the district court, and a member of the oommlsaioa firm of Low it White, met with aa accident that might have proven fatal, be having received a load ot No. 8 shot in the soa from a gun ia the bands of E.

Potter of Hiattyille. While the mishap is not serious, yet it is very pain ful, and would have proved fatal hd the abot been fired at a cl er range. Mr. White and E. Potter were bunting ia the a'lernooa on the Walker farm, just weat of Hiattyille.

White waa on one aide of a bill and Potter on the other, the land at that plaee having formed a mound. Potter chased up a ''cotton tall" and ran it up the bllL When the rabbit reached the top Potter raised the gun and tired. Just at that time White waa ascending on the other side of the hill and when Potter pulled the trigger bis face only waa visible, but it was then too late, as before be could think the gun was dis charged. It was at a distance of about fifty feet. Sixteen abot took effect la Mr.

White's face and banda and are now lmbdded ia bis fleeh. One ot the abot went clear through the lower part of bis nose. The Injured man did not faint or give war whoop, but immediately came to the city and sought Dr. Alk- maa, who dressed his injuries. The shot was not removed.
