of a lower court which had decreed that anyone wagering on the outcome of a fight or even acting as a stakeholder was guilty of a misdemeanor The highest court made the ruling in the case of Samuel Solomon of New York City who was arrested in 1943 after betting that featherweight champion Willie pep would defeat Allie Stolz in a Madison Square Garden bout Solomon was convicted and sentenced to
