(if) The vivacious wives of Gemini 4 astronauts James A. McDivitt and Edward H. White II anxiously awaited today a weekend rendezvous with America's newest space heroes. Both also had presidential invitations to visit the LBJ Ranch with their husbands Friday or Saturday. In the dramatic aftermath of the four-day Gemini flight, the attractive young wives laughed and cried without restraint.

They talked jubilantly of a reunion near the weekend, of quiet and lively celebrations ahead, and of their personal observations during the 98-hour ordeal. Then they thanked one and all for the concern shown for the safety of their husbands. "I can't tell you how proud I am," beamed honey-blonde Pat White as she hugged her two children, Eddie, 11, and Bonnie, Lynn, 9. Today Santa Crui' 1306 Pacific P8 I By Cynthia I owry AP Television-Radio Writer New York The astronauts dropped safely back to our world Monday with- the major television and radio networks covering the exciting story in detail. In the absence of other claims, it must be assumed that NBC, in its early evening wrap-up of the Gemini story, scooped its rivals with the first moving pictures of the spacemen arriving on the carrier Wasp, smiling joyously and looking like Western badmen in their four-day beards. The taped and filmed pictures the latter apparently being developed during the early part of the NBC special were hardly of prize-winning quality. This viewer watching film of the space capsule bobbing in a chop, py sea while being filmed from a hovering helicopter, suffered acute seasickness sitting in an easy chair in a living room.

The triumphal progress of the astronauts from the Atlantic Ocean to the LBJ Ranch will be covered thoroughly for the rest of the werk, but the cliff-hanging part is over. All three networks did a thorough, conscientious job. CBS emerged winner by a small margin in the latest Nielsen rating report covering the two-week period ending May 23. In the numbers game, CBS rolled up a 16.2, with NBC achieving 15.9 and ABC, 15.4. Programs credited with the largest audiences during the two-week period were, in this order, Bonanza, Gomer Pyle, Be witched, Peyton Place (Thurs day night episode), Dick Van Dyke Show, Peyton Place (Tues day night), Andy Griffith Show, the special "Best on Record," Gunsmoke and Beverly Hill billies.

The judge said the separation was caused by "trouble with the son." She swiftly corrected a news man who asked about the strain she had undergone. "I wasn't upset," she said. "This was great. You just don't know." The oldest McDivitt child, Mike, 8, told his excited mother: "You never talked that loud before."
