year and he backs up the statement with this logical reason "The lineup is pretty well set we know who is going to do most of the playing This time last year we were still sort of in the dark "It makes a big difference when boys play together regularly and get used to each other" As a matter of fact last season the lineup never did really jell At times it changed daily Sometimes it would seem to be set for a week or two but one reason or another always came unstuck This time it would appear there will be much less shuffling unless the powers that be in the Pittsburgh organization make a lot of changes in personnel Here's why: the present roster includes only five infielders and five outfielders In keeping with baseball's everlasting search for pitching talent 16 of the 29 rookies (average age: 19) are pitchers Everyone expects optimistic pre-season pronouncements from the officials of a professional baseball team But the feeling persists in talking to Gibbons and visiting Pirate brass that their optimism about the local Bucs is genuine Don Osborne managerial consultant who coached the entire training period and a former Triple-A manager says "they are the best looking group of rookies I've ever seen" A pair of former Dobyns-Bennett pitchers will be working out some with the Bucs this summer perhaps getting to pitch a spot of batting practice They are John Wilborn and Bob Rea a who showed enough to interest the Pirates although Gibbons says "Wilborn is a year away and I think Reagan is more interested in college" PIRATE LINEUP SET Standings Behind APPALACHIAN got himself into trouble although the Oriole batters gave him enough of a pad to get through Anderson got into hot water in the eighth as Kingsport's Royce McDaniel reached first on an error with one out Jim Richards Pirate first sacker then singled and left fielder Gary McBride crashed a home run over the left field fence The blast cut the Bluefield lead to 16-1 1 The visitors mounted a threat in
