NASHVILLE Tenn March 19 Knoxville High Trojans saw their title hopes fade in the second semi-final frame of tho Tennesseean Vanderbilt tonrnnnicnt Saturday afternoon when Alpine High winners of the regional meet at Cookeville eked out a 17 to 16 decision to win the right to go into tho finals Coach Red boys never showed the form displayed in the -earlier games of the tournament Their passing was wild and they missed a number of easy shots Alpine rushed the attempts of the Knoxvillinns at the basket and their shots were ill-timed in the majority of instances Norris Alpine guard gave one-- Kingsport High winners of tho Kingsport tourney 14 to 9 Superior passing wan the keynote of the Irish victory They had possession of tho ball three-fourths of the time just as they did in the early tourney games Kingsport wss unable to work the ball under the basket as it hiul done in the previous contests The Hast Tennesseeans brought the ball down the floor well until they reached tho edge of tho foul circle then they eould not go any farther The close guarding of the Irish prevented them from shooting except at long range In the last half they attempted numerous long shots but the ball hit the rim and cither rolled or bounced off They did not follow their shots like the Irish did 4 Neither team was able to score In tha third period Both triad Knoxville's first annual Independent here tonight to score a 19 to 15 victory over Alpine High school In the finale of the Tennessean Vanderbilt annual state basketball tourney By virtue of their triumph the Irish quintet were crowned the champions of the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic association a number of long shota but every one went wild Dodd revived tho Kingsport hopes with a free shot early In the fourth period Kelley
