J. Shoe Repair Shop at 1581 Broadway, Watervliet. Mr. Bernstein was born in Troy, son of Ihe lale Joseph and Minnie Cooper Hcrnslein, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He followed his father in the shoe repair busness in Watervliet in 1914 and also made custom built shoes for many customers in his years of business.

He retired last September. He was a member of Beth Tephilah Synagogue, King Solomon Masonic Lodge and Oriental Temple. Survivors include his wife, the former Goldie Suhcr; a daughter, Sandra Bernstein; three sisters, Mrs, vel- yn Yaffe of Los Angeles. Calif Mrs. Anne Wattenberg of Washington, D.C., and Mrs.

Sally Cohen of Hollywood, and two brothers, Esur Bernstein of Silver Springs, and Albert Bernstein of Hampton Manor. She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Women, a charter member of the Mr. and Mrs.

Club, and for many years served as a Sunday School teacher. For more than ten years, she was an active Red Cross volunteer and was also a member of the Watervliet Senior Citizens and Ionic Chapter, Order Of the Eastern Star, Waterford. (AP) Former U.S. Sen. George L. Radcliffe, a close personal friend of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, is dead at 96.

Radcliffe, who had been bedridden since July 12 recovering from a fractured hip, died at his home on Monday. The cause of death was not disclosed. Radeliffe was born in Ihe small Eastern Shore town of Lloyds, where his father was a farmer and shipbuilder. He earned a law degree from the University of Maryland in 1903. Radcliffe was appointed to his first political post in 1919, when he was named Maryland secretary of stale by the late Qov.

Emerson Harrington, a fellow Dorchester County native. became connected with the American Bonding Co. in 1803 as an attorney, eventually being named vice president of the firm. When American Bonding merged with Fidelity Deposit Co. in 1913, Radcliffe retained his position of vice president and was named director of the company.

He met Roosevelt in 1920 when bold were working for Fidelity cV Deposit, and "the resulting friendship in part prompted him to successfully seek a Senate seat in 1934. She had been employed by Ihc Slate of New York, as a senior audit clerk in the Department of Audit and Con-- trol for 22 years, and was a communicant of SI. Agnes' Church. Besides her daughter and her mother, she is s.urvived by two sons, James J. Maloney of BeUview, and a W.

Maloney of Cohoes, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be under the direction of the Fitzgerald Funeral Home.
