joined the army air corps this week Mr and Mrs Don Wilson of Dallas Texas spent Wednesday and Thursday in Drummond at tTie home of Mrs Wilson's parents Mr and Mrs John Brown Anna Wegener is suffering from a very sore and painful hand this week which she sliced up considerably in the slicing machine Mrs Ilughes and Irene Webber were Enid shoppers Tuesday Mrs Charles Conger of Barr spent Wednesday afternoon at the home of her sister Mrs Clarence Long Mr and Mrs Reuben Dierksen were Enid business callers Satur Air Mechanics School Started at Air Base Major A Hoer le director of the ground training school here announces that a course in aviation mechanics is being offered to all enlisted men who desire to learn about aircraft engines and eveni tually become competent mechanics The school is open to both men who have end who have not previously had training in army service schools It is supervised by Lieut William Yeager and S- Sgt Tom A Martin of the 80th Air Base squadron is the instructor Sgt Martin is a graduate of the mechanics school at Chanute field The school Major Hoefle said will accommodate 50 students and the course is for 40 hours Classes are held two hours a Norte Club met with Mrs Clarence Long on Wednesday April 15 with Mrs Carl Long assisting Mrs Clarence Long as hostess Two guests Mrs Charles Congar and Mrs Mary Rasar and nineteen members answered roll call Mrs George Bracken gave a report on the food sale Airs Noel Hedges gave a report on the club meeting at Enid and Mrs Mary Cummings on the 4-11 meeting at Enid Saturday A letter from Mrs Miller was read thanking the club for the curtains sent to the Soldier Cen ter Mrs Earl Moyers led the lesson on "Learning to Live Together" and gave a demonstration Mrs Carl Long won the contest and Airs John Austin the mystery package Mary Louise Long and Patsy Knight gave a demonstration on Victory gardens Lovely refreshments were served The club will meet with Airs Earl Moyers and Airs Joe Wassenhaupt and daughter Beatrice and Mrs Viola Hayns and children of Valley View Texas motored up Friday to attend the school program and visit with her sister Mrs Albert Riffel and family They report that the green bugs have completely destroyed their crops gardens and pastures Also in the southern part of the state Mr Geo Streck of Creely Colo Mr Julius Streck of Kansas City visited in Tulsa with their brother Isaac and family and here with Streck and family and in Enid with their mother Mrs Geo Streck sr Mr and Mrs Fred Steck and Mr and Mrs Earl W(il) le Mrs John Riffel jr and (laughter Patty visited in the John Rad home on Friday Art Porter was a caller on Sunday afternoon in the Hoover home The next time you are baking a cake and want to conserve sugar you'll enjoy this Miss La Verna Drassen of Hunter visited several days hi Drummond this week with Miss Eleanor Wams ley Miss Donna Marie Long and Eva Pearl Kaupke visited Mena in Enid Sunday Mr and Mrs Emil Dierksen and family were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Clarence Dierksen Mrs Howard Long spent the week end in Enid at the home of Mrs Everett Sparer Howard Long and Edward Shirley returned to Drummond Mondayevening from the southeastern part of the state with a load of lumber Mrs Light spent Monday at the home of Mrs Clarence Long Little Miss Sue Manon Spohrer of Enid visited in Drummond Friday at the home of her grandparents Mr and Mrs Clarence Long Mrs Tobias high school teacher is reported ill this week Margaret Hedger is nursing a case of mumps this week The Drummond 4-11 Club did well this year In the first year aprons the blue ribbon class was Nola Jo Hedges In the second year dress making Carla Jean Gates was grand champion and in the third year dress making Louise Long was grand champion In the fifth year Wanda Henneke was in the blue ribbon class Nola Jo Hedges and Luetta Miller were in the blue ribbon class in their demonstration and Louise Long and Patsy Knight were grand champions in their victory garden demonstration Homer Pryor got grand championship on his timely topic The results of the program pie supper and bond and stamp sale held at the auditorium last Friday night surmounted the highest expectation of many A fine program was presented by the Enid Junior Chamber of Commerce 'followed by Earl Mitchell of Enid after which the pies were sold at auction Doc Burgess of Covington acted as auctioneer assisted by A Meredith of Enid There were 52 pies sold seven of which wore exchanged for $100 bonds the rest selling for prices ranging from $25 to $75 The pies were furnished by the women of the commumnity The bonds were handled by the Bank of Drummond and the stamps by the Post Office assisted by the teacher and pupils of the Drummond school Total receipts for the evening amounted to $2400 The Junior class play "Im in the Army Now" a three-act comedy will be presented at the Drummond school auditorium Friday night May 1 at 9:00 o'clock War Time Watch for ticket sale!
