Tolar also has two service stations, the Garden of Eden greenhouse and nursery, and the only sawmill in this area. There are four churches in Tolar. Tolar Baptist, the United Methodi9t Church and th Church of Christ are in town. The Assembly of God is approximately from miles out of town on the Paluxy Highway.

Tolar is a small agricultural community nine miles west of Granbury on U. S. Highway 377 k'tween Granbury and Stephen-Wile. Tolar was first settled in 1870 by Civil War veterans and was named for General Tolar. At one time a thriving town, the business district was nearly destroyed by fire in 1909 and never completely recovered.

The city government is made up of a mayor and five aldermen. The mayor and the aldermen are elected for two year terms. A. B. Haddock is mayor.
