Maud, Oklahoma, Thursday, January Strictly Personal 29. 1959 MAUD ENTERPRISE MAUD ENTERPRISE NANCY GOSS TO APPEAR BEFORE HOLDENVILLE CLUB Little Miss Nancy Goss, daughter of Mrs. Martha Goss, Maud, will appear before the Shubert Music club in Holdenville, February 3, at 2 p.m., according to her instructor, Mrs. Martha Mitchell, Seminole. Little Miss Goss, seven-years-old, will do an interpretive Irish Washerwoman toe dance.

Her brother, Roger, also is a student of Mrs. Mitchell, in the social dance. Nancy and Roger are the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. H.

H. Goss of Maud, and of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Root, Lindsay. Community Garden Club To Meet Monday Afternoon Vol.

61 No. 5 An important meeting of the Community Garden club will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 2, in George's banquet room on Main street, the president, Mrs. Finis Copeland, has announced. The president urges all who were unable to attend the last meeting, to be present for the Monday meeting.

In addition, all other interested persons and members of the club are urged attend. Further plans will be made to clean up vacant city lots and the plant flowers and shrubs in order to improve the appearance of the city. The telephone comittee has been at work, Mrs. Copeland said, but many were unable to be contacted. Officers of the newly formed with Mrs.

Copeland as president, include Rev. A. T. Hill, first vicepresident; the Rev. George D.

Walker, second vice Mrs. L. R. Hall, secretary and publicity chairman; and Mrs. H.

Rice, treasurer. Silver Day Winners Are All From Maud All winners in the Silver Day drawing Saturday were city residents, Mrs. Perry Hayes was the $10 winner, while Mrs. Lee Cannon and Mrs. R.

F. Burton, were winners in the $5 category. Mrs. E. F.

Akin, Maud Route one, was a five percent winner of the jackpot award. The drawing this Saturday will be under the direction of Kay D. Goss of the Goss Dry Goods, and B. G. Green of the First National Bank.

The drawing will begin at the usual hour, 3 p.m. in front of the soon-to-be city hall building on Main street. Claims Allowed by Board of Education The Maud Board of Education met Tuesday evening in regular session at the highschool when routine business was disposed of. 'The group approved local accounts and the January payroll. During further business the resignation of Mrs.

Orpha Lytle, as head of the city schools lunchroom program was accepted. The board named Mrs. R. G. Hester to Mrs.

Lytle's position, with Mrs. Evert Anderson retained to replace Mrs. Hester. The two changes school lunchroom personnel complete for next year the board said. Mrs.

Kate Benson and Mrs. Dorothy Clark and daughter had as Sunday guests Mr. and Mrs. Duane McElvany and family, Chickasha; and the Robert Benson family, Tecumseh. Mr.

and Mrs. D. L. Whittern, Shawnee, were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Ollie Whittern. (TEA 1959 Magazine Stressed By Rotarians Members of the Maud Rotary club at the Monday evening dinner session, joined Rotary clubs throughout the world in marking the 48th anniversary of the Rotarian, the magazine of Rotary International, circulating In 123 countries to more than 37-6000 persons. At the time they saluted the Revista Rotaria, the Spanish language edition of the magazine, with a circulation of 43,000, mainly in Latin America. In keeping with Rotary's object of improving crafts and communities and of advancing world understanding, Rotary's magazine publishes articles on subjects ranging from the art of living to business subjects, to community betterment, to international affairs. Contributors have included such authorities as J.

C. Penny, Helen Hayes, Clement Attlee, Lowell Thomas, Willy Lev, Charles Malik and Charles P. Romulo, who have written for the magazine's large audience of business and professional people. Frank Killingsworth of Seminole club was a guest for the evening. Also two Rotary Ann's, of the Maud club, Mrs.

Alpha Lee Copeland and Mrs. Clara Bell Pfeiffer, who were representing the Community Garden club. Their purpose was to extend an INVItation to the Rotary club to participate In their coming spring program to beautify the vacant lots up and down Main street, and encourage everyone to do the same to their yards and Now if they will just make that invitation mandatory, like "the boss at home you married men know what we mean they just might get the job done. Gerald Allen Opens New Business Gerald Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Henry Allen, of Maud, has opened a watch repair shop in the Irby Drug store, effective as of Saturday, January 24. Gerald is a graduate of highschool, and was recently graduated from Southwestern college, Weatherford, as a registered watchmaker. At his graduation he was presented a certificate naming him to the Watchmakers of America. He studied under the famous instructor at Southwestern, Max. E.

Lee, known to be among the best instructors in the world in watch repair work. Gerald also retains in the U.N. Horological Association of America. He invites Maudites in to see his shop and will be happy to greet old friends as well as new ones here and in the surrounding area. Wanda Jackson Plans To Tour Japan son, Oklahoma City formerly of Maud a rock'n roll artist since the recording of "Fujiyama Mama" was busy packing her costumes and guitar preparing for her trip to Japan for an extended tour of anese theatres, clubs, and service bases.

Wanda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson, Oklahoma City and former residents of Maud; and is the niece of Mrs. Willie Ledbetter Maud and the late Jess Jackson and grand daughter of the late Bob Jackson. Wanda's recording of yama Mama" has been selling exceptionally well in Japan and the slender, dark-haired girl believes it may be responsible for the unusual invitation for an American female artist to tour the Kokusai and Daigeki theater chains.

The star of the Red Foley show arrived at her new home at 525 SW 42 Sunday afternoon from Springfield, headquarters of the "Ozark Jubilee." With her she brought two new Japanese lounging robes to create atmosphere for her visit to the Far East. Atop the piano in the home she shares with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson, is a double photo frame with Wanda's picture on one side and Elvis Pres ley's on the other. "We started out together," Wanda smiles.

"But he got ahead of me somewhere along the lin Tuesday morning Wanda Jack- Couple Purchases Local Hotel and Beauty Shop Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Swarb announced today, they have chased the Roberts Hotel and Beauty Shop at 101 East Monroe street, and will assume active agement as of February 1. The former proprietors of the hotel and beauty shop, Mr. and Mrs.

Jim Roberts, have purchased the Swarb home on North Douglas street. Mr. Roberts. who was recently retired from Magnolia, and Mrs. Roberts, will travel and visit with their children for a time before returning to Maud to make their home.

The name of the hotel and beauty shop will be changed to the Swarb Hotel and Beauty Shop in the near future, the new tors said. Miss Shirley Palmer will continue to assist her sister as an operator in the Beauty shop. She went 011 tour with Presley 111 1955, shortly after she was graduated from Capitol Hill highschool. Wanda admits that Presley advised her then to do rock 'n roll. "You do that and you'll be all right," she quoted, him as saying.

"That's what the kids want." Wanda, who does pop, rock or country style, initiated her musical career while she was still a child at Maud. Her father, who used to play with a band, taught her to strum chords on a guitar. He now tours with her wherever she goes and will accompany her on the trip to Japan. Wanda was busy packing her costumes Sunday, which her mother still makes for her with the same loving care she did while the popular singer was still a teenager, winning talent contests all over the state. Now a top artist for Capitol records, Wanda had her own radio program at the age of 13.

She got her real start with Hank Thompson, another Oklahoma City artist, who recommended her to his recording manager. She used to sing at dances with the Thompson musicians. Wanda has been getting a lot of fan mail from American servicemen in Japan since her of "Fujiyama Mama" was released there, so she is anticipating an enthusiastic welcome. In fact all of her records are so popular there she is booked for three shows a day seven days a week with a possibility the contract may run into ten weeks. PTA Group Will Have Bake Sale Saturday Maud PTA organization will hold a bake sale Saturday 31, in the local Hardware store on Main street.

The sale will begin at 9:30 a.m. Persons may obtain cakes, pies or cookies at the sale. Funds derived will be used to purchase names plates for doors in both Central Ward and the highschool. Persons desiring special orders of pies or cakes may phone Mrs. C.

W. Hitchcock at 5834 and Orders will be promptly filled and delivered. Visiting Sunday afternoon with the Woodrow Caudle family southwest of the city were Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson.

Caudie, Okmulgee, also through the weekend with his parents. Mrs. Ruby Wigginton, Peydon, was a Monday guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.

C. Jackson and family. Examiner Here On February 17 Otho Wilcox, tag agent, said today the examiner will be in Maud Tuesday, February 17, at 9 a.m. to give exams for drivers and chauffers license. The tag agent also warned motorists whose birthdays occur this month to check their present license and have them renewed if they expire this month or in February. Saturday, January 31, is th deadline for tag purchases, before the ten cent a day penalty starts Mr. Wilcox said.

After March 31, the penalty doubles. Persons who have transfer titles are also warned they must have them changed within the next ten days before the ten cent a day penalty until the excise tax doubles. FRIENDS LEARN OF MARRIAGE Friends have been infomed of the recent wedding of Frankie Lee Graves, formerly of Maud, and Miss Jacqueline Marie, of Pomona, California. The wedding was an event of December 31. Frankie Lee formerly attended school here and is the son of Mrs.
